Super Bowl XXXIX Boosts Digital Television Sales

Strong December Sales Close Out Record Year

Arlington, Va., January 28 - As Americans prepare for the nation's unofficial holiday -- Super Bowl XXXIX - consumer electronics retailers are ringing up huge sales of digital television (DTV) products. According to figures released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), December 2004 factory-to-dealer sales of DTV products hit 927,000 units, marking a 45 percent increase over December 2003. Total DTV sales for 2004 reached 7.2 million units, an increase of 75 percent compared to year-end 2003.

With November 2004 holiday sales of 844,000 units, the 10 percent increase in December sales demonstrates that retailers know that an upgrade to a high-definition television (HDTV) is a priority to consumers before this year's Super Bowl," said CEA Director of Market Research Sean Wargo

Want to bet how many folks are buying an HD to watch the superbowl, and will just be plugging analog cable in, morons :D

But they're watching it on a High Defiinition TV! :) HAHA

It's very common, just head to any bar and you'll see it immediately. Outback has this huge projection TV with this horrible stretched SD picture on it. Unbelievable!

my Brother has a 32"Sony , ordered D* on promo last summer, they hooked up his sd tivo to rf...go figure, I hooked him up the right way...btw he was on "digital" cable and the D* thru the rf still blew that(digital) PQ away...:)

Sales should be strong EVERY December. Aside from the fact that it's Christmas, there's all the college bowl games in HD, all the NFL playoff games, college basketball, NBA basketball, AND the Super Bowl, all in HD. It's the highest concentration of sports HD all year.
