Infra red control

I am using a Toshiba plasma 50 TV.
The TV has an IR output connector, which i would like to use to control the Hughes Hird d7 encoder box that is mounted in a closet behind the wall.
I am using an Ir blaster cable but I have not been able to make it work. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Use a mx-850 with a mrf-300 ir repeater. Anything less would be uncivilised
