Just installed Tivo HD

I like the tivo HD netflix access. Can't say that the HD netflix quality on any device is anything special though. But it's nice and easy for the family to do the netflix stuff.

I actually started looking at Tivo HD this weekend as I'm getting fed up with the lame HD DVR my cable co offers. Unfortunately $800 for a series 3 seemed a bit steep. Are there any great promotions out there? I would think a Roku is a much cheaper route if you are primarily interested in streaming Netflix HD.

tivo.com you can get factory renewed tivo HD's for $199
https://www3.tivo.com/store/boxes.do?type=renewed

I got my tivo Hd's that way, then I just bought a couple 500gb computer drives and upgraded the internal hd's. Takes about 10 minutes each, very easy to do with the tivo utilities out there.

I pretty much only use our Tivo HD's for OTA and netflix. Digital tuner is pretty solid IMO.

Wow! Thanks. I must have been looking at the Series 3 for $800+ on Amazon. Didn't realize there was another Tivo HD model. Is there any significant difference?

Elwaylite, which model did you get? This one is $529 at Amazon: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/TiVo-TCD658000-HD-XL-DVR/dp/B001EWEIOW/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_0]Amazon.com: TiVo TCD658000 HD XL DVR: Electronics[/ame]

Lol, nevermind, should've done a little more research before asking noob questions. Just found a comparison chart on Tivo's Web site: https://www3.tivo.com/store/boxes.do

TiVo still only works with Cable right?

Isn't D* in the works of pairing up with TiVo? When will that relationship start again?

There was talk of 2010. Then D* cut back on "capital expenditures" and this announcement has introduced some doubt as to if they have put the Tivo deal on hold.

Plus, Tivo has to survive. They've always been in a rather precarious position, and with the Dish/Echostar lawsuit continuing, and not necessarily to their advantage, and the tanking economy, and the continuing losses of subscribers as their main base moves to other D* boxes, - well, I'm not buying any Tivo stock. Or products.

Why is this thread here? What has it to do with Blu-Ray?

Because I did not know where to put it and there is always a good deal of Netflix "watch now" discussion around this forum.

I love posts like yours, makes me ask "how does this post add to the thread"? If you have an issues with it, report it to a mod with your complaint, dont waste my time with a reply like that.

The watch now works very well on my Tivo, but the quality is not so hot. The movie selection makes it well worth adding a few titles for a rainy day. Good job to everyone involved.

How about putting it in Recording and Playback Equipment - SatelliteGuys.US

Netflix, when not talking about renting BD also doesn't belong here. Too bad they archived the HDDVD/Blu-Ray war zone.
