Tv was working this morning and then it turned to snow. The TV input button on the remote dosen't do anything.Tried changing from channel 3 to 4,nothing.Tried the red rest button, nothing.Tried unplugging all the plugs and waiting, still just snow.Batteries are good in the remote.Any suggestions?

:welcome to Satelliteguys mldave!

It sounds as if your connection to the dish is lost. If you push the info button on the remote do you get anything on screen?

Was told to set the channel to 3 or 4...don't know what an HDMI cable is?....the TV was working fine for 3 months and was on this morning when everything just turned to snow or black screen.Only thing that works on the remote is on/off and the volumn buttons.

On the DIRECTV® remote control

Slide switch to TV
1. Press and hold MUTE and SELECT (LED flashes twice)
2. Enter 960

This will enable the INPUT button on your DIRECTV® remote control, you can now use the DIRECTV® remote control to get back to the required input on your TV

Tried that a few times and just now...dosen't change a thing.

There is likely a button on the remote labeled input. Try pushing it.

There is no input buttton on the TV remote. It's an older RCA......would changing the TV help?Perhaps I could borrow one.

You have your TV input set to "OTA" (also called "air" on some sets) and you have the box wired to the "video" inputs. Nothing is wrong with the DirecTV box. Probably the power has been off and the TV has defaulted back to OTA, which was common for that era of TV.

Solution One: There is nothing wrong with the DirecTV box. This is all the TV. Look at the TV's remote. If there is no "input" button, then the button may be labeled "source". Or you may have to reach it via the "menu" or "settings" buttons. In any event, set the input to "video" or "RGY". If there really is no such deal on the remote, there is on the TV.

Solution Two: Remove the RGY cables. Get a regular piece of cable (a black coax cable). Attach it to the coax hub on the back of the box and the "antenna" hub on the TV.

Really, you need a box and a TV upgrade.

No input button on the TV'S remote...there is an off,TV,VCR,program, clear, memory, display, volume, mute, prev ch,plus all the numbers for channels...there is a menu button on the RCA which when pressed shows sleep, alarm, clock, auto program, edit channels antenna:air and list features. There is also a reset button on the RCA,which shows video reset when pressed.I don't know anything about the cables or how to fix them in your solution number two...thanks for taking the time to reply.

You can try this.
You said you have in the Menu, a spot that says Antenna: Air
Change that setting and see if that works for you.
I don't know what options you have on your set, but it can't hurt to try them.

A new TV and an upgraded D* box would show you what TV should look like !

This is most likely not a problem with DirecTV, as our boxes will not produce a snowy picture (which the one exception of having the coax out to tv physically broke on the box) your problem is deffinently related to not having the TV on the correct source to view DirecTV. As others have already said you most likely need to get your tv back onto channel 3. WHen you were describing your setup, did you say you had three red white yellow cables running into a third box that then had a coax running to the tv? THis sounds like an RF Modulator, does this third box have power? that could be your problem as well. check that everything is plugged into electricity.

Also if you could manage to post a picture of your tv with setop box and cables from the back we could probably better assist you.

When the TV comes on it shows 03 briefly in the top right.Yes there are three cables going into the box on top of the TV,red..white and yellow..plus the bigger white cable. There's a smaller box on the floor with two white cables coming out that has a constant greenish/yellow light. One goes through the wall to the outside and the other is the previously mentioned white cable that plugs into the box on top of the TV(which I guess is the receiver?)No access to a camera.I tried different menu settings with the TV remote.but nothing changes..thanks for the reply.
