Mirror Tvs with a Joey

In another thread, isaacmorseMI posted a photo of a Hopper/Joey activation and setup page. It states that mirroring a Joey will result in a trouble call. It states they are supposed to right-size the customer to an additional Joey or Hopper.

It is in the joey has no internet thread, wont let me post a link to it...

I thought we were able to mirror a Joey?

You can mirror in SD a hopper or joey by using a modulator, I'm mirroring a hopper to 6 SD TVs.

You can mirror, you just can't backfeed a rf modulated signal on the same coax the Joey/Hopper. You must use a separate coax.

Yes this is correct and very important to understand!

What about mirroring a Hopper? I have a 612 today backfeeding the signal through the same Coax. Is this not possible anymore?

Same thing applies with a Hopper - mirroring will require a second cable run.

I am using a Joey to feed a few older SDTVs by placing it at the wiring junction box and then connecting it to an old VCR (to use as an RF modulator) and connecting it to a powered splitter.

I put a RF modulator off my Joey then fed coax to a splitter that goes to a couple TV's in the house. However, one TV shows a black & white picture, the other shows a color picture but it's grainy and the third TV I tested won't show anything.

Are there any particular settings to be careful of? My RF modulator can pick from channel 3 or channel 4.

When looking at the Joey settings, I'm only allowed to choose HDMI settings (1080p/i, 720, etc.) and the aspect ratio. I tried a combination of settings but nothing was the magic answer. What if I'm putting the Joey on a SD TV? There's no options to output non-HDMI resolutions and aspect ratios?

On the TV, what settings should be used there? Cable or Antenna setting? Is channel 3 better than 4 for some reason?

You can also mirror using a wireless device too. I mirror my basement Hopper to my bedroom TV on the second story using an HD wireless transmitter.

Mr. Scherrman ....sounds like you have a great way to mirror the Joey .....do you use a separate remote, or ...what is the "distance" you can get with the remote that comes WITH the Joey? Could you give some details one the type, brand and where you got the wireless transmitter? I simply want to mirror a sd tv about 40 ft down a hall in another room. I'll be using the HDMI output for the HD TV but ....are you using the composite output of the Joey ...or what? Sorry ...not THAT technical so details would be sincerely appreciated.

any 15db cable modulator will do to get AV signal to coax

Modulators that give CH 3/4 are to feed a DVD/AV device to a old tube tv. They would require an amp to give picture over 15'

You can get modulators just about anywhere such as Walmart, K-mart, Best Buy, etc., etc.. They cost around 20 - 25 dollars, give or take a little.

They also make HDMI over ethernet cable adapters. It allows you to run a high def signal over a greater distance via ethernet cable. If you google it, lots of hits will appear.

I use the Channel Master 5415 modulator and an 8-way splitter to mirror to 8 TVs over RG6 cables. Good picture on all sets. Also use a cheap GE modulator for my security cameras but the signal is a little weak.

I'm new and still trying to catch up on this great forum.

So lets say I have a Joey in my basement family room and want to mirror it to a cheap SD TV in the downstairs bedroom.

Do I make the splice (splitter) in my patch panel, or do I need a coax cable going from the Joey to my SD TV?

I'm guessing the coax modulator sits on top of my SD TV, has a coax in and coax out to the TV?

Do I use the same remote or can I have a dedicated remote in each room?

Can someone please take a look at this image and see if anything is possible? I don't think I can run a second coax from the Joey to my Utility because all my walls/ceilings are drywalled. So I'm wondering if there are any options out there for me to mirror my basement joey to 1 to many TV's in my house. All the COAX ends for the house go to the Utility room, but each room only has a single COAX running to it (each room also has an ethernet cable running to it also if I can do anything with that). With the old 612 I was able to backfeed the 612 output to the Utility room where I then split that signal to any of the TV's in my house that I wanted to mirror what was on the 612. I open to any and all crazy ideas

You could add a 3rd Joey in your Utility Room and mirror it from there.
