Greetings-
I have searched and read about the ongoing battle between ABC/Disney and Dish. And I am looking to switch to Dish from DirecTv and have been told that we can't switch unless Dish has Disney HD. That being said, does anyone know if this battle will be resolved anytime soon. If not I may try to get the Genie from DirecTv but I REALLY want the Hopper. Thank you in advance for your help!

Who said you cannot switch? If member of your viewing family, I can understand the reason. If someone else, who and what for what reason?

It is a member of my family who has Disney HD and Disney XD HD on more than I thought. And in our discussions was told they would not support the switch without these channels.

I can see that. Needing HD quality to compensate for the lack of quality of their content. ;)

I'm gonna be honest that the disney channels are probably watched as much at our house as anything. However, #1 the audience for those could care less about the HD. #2, I can't tell a whole lot of difference on the cartoons with our plasma tv anyway with the Hopper.

And don't get me wrong because I'm an absolute HD snob and can't stand watching SD.

Would be nice if the issue does get resolved, when the kids watch movies on the channel sometimes HD would be a nice touch but oh well....

Count me in on the "Wants HD for Disney crap" club. My kids watch plenty of Disney. So it sucks when I see shows on in SD when I know that they could be HD. This is especially true when they show some Pixar or classic Disney movies.

Plus, I really like "The Clone Wars" and I've been reading that now that Disney owns Star Wars, that when the Cartoon Network contract is up, that it will be switched over to the Disney XD network. That show is too beautiful to watch in SD.

I asked at CES and was told they are "trying" to get them.

But if you notice on their Twitter and Facebook feeds they are doing a lot if promotions for Disney and ABC.

It would not surprise me to see them show up in an uplink sometime this year. (But I will be surprised when they do!")

I would love to see the rest of the Disney/ESPN channels in HD as well. But part of me says after seeing how the AMC thing played out this past summer/fall, where the contract to carry the channels expired and Dish dropped the channels & waited till they went to court before getting them back, I wouldn't be surprised to see the same thing with the Disney/ESPN channels. So I am hoping they go to court/settle before the contract expires. But then again Disney has a lot more leverage in terms of viewership of their channels - Disney Channel and ESPN are in the top 10 most watched cable channels each and every week, and more people would notice and be upset if Dish dropped them.

If they drop ESPN then viewers not on contract will drop Dish fast.
I too hope everyday that the Disney HD channels will return. I even have dreams about them returning but now it has been 2 1/2 years already so I am use it it.
Netflix has a lot of Disney channel content in HD so I watch some of it there.

I have the feeling with most subscribers getting $6 increases in their bills,Dish will be trying to get things resolved with Disney.I also don't think there is much danger of Dish losing ESPN.That would practically kill the company.

I hope you are right.
