I recently took advantage of the dish 510 reciever offer and am trying to hook up the new and old recievers(510 and 301) to the same tv set to be able to record a "live" program while viewing a different "live" program. what is the easiest way to split signal from dish or to hook them up to accomplish this. All replies appreciated

I'm doing the same. If there are 2 lines from the dish then run one to each receiver. Then if your tv has both composite and S video you could plug one into each. If not, you could use a switch where you have 2 in and one out to go to the tv. Describing your equipment would help determine what is possible but the main requirement is a dual LNB - 2 lines out of the dish.

If your set is older, and you don't want to use an a/b switch, you can take the rf output of the 510 and run it to the antenna input of the 301. That input is a "pass thru" that only works when the 301 is off. That means that when the 301 is on, you will see whatever the 301 is set to. Turn off the 301, and you'd see whatever the 510 is doing.

Couldn't a splitter/combiner work on the TV outputs as long as he had one shut off?

The rcvr will record while shut off.
