Nimiq 4 strength

Your in Quebec, so not only should you be getting signal on Nimiq 4, but your signal should be MUCH better...

DaveFormula and myself have been in frequent contact on our findings in Nashville, TN and North Carolina

As he now gets all transponders and I get multiples of 4 and the next odd transponder up (eg 16 and 17), I have ordered a 76 cms dish and will post the results from Nashville TN as soon as it arrives and I have it set up.

There are apparently some footprint changes going on. I have ordered a 76 cm dish to see what happens here in Nashville. However on the old 20 inch dish I am now seeing a few more transponders even from last week. Two weeks ago I saw nothing apart from Transponders 2 and 3. Since last week transponders 1, 5, 11, 15, 19, 23, and 30 are also visible. I also note that the transponders I saw last week have gone up approx 3-4 percentage points.

Here are my latest readings

TP01 42% (new this week)
TP03 94%
TP04 48%
TP05 42% (new this week)
TP08 50%
TP09 46%
TP11 41% (new this week)
TP12 49%
TP13 45%
TP14 40% (new but not a solid lock)
TP15 41% (new this week)
TP16 48%
TP17 46%
TP19 41% (new this week)
TP20 48%
TP21 46%
TP23 41% (new this week)
TP24 47%
TP25 44%
TP28 48%
TP29 44%
TP30 37% (new but not a solid lock)
TP32 48%

Yesterday we had heavy rain in the morning and I lost 82 completely but 91 remained solid. In the afternoon we had showers and quite overcast skies and I could see 82 again.

76cms Winegard works in Nashville, TN

My 76 cms Winegard dish arrived today and I just completed a quick check on my deck with a temporary mounting setup into my old 4700.

All of the transponders on 82 come in with a lock. Even with the temporary and somewhat wobbly mounting I was getting signals in the 40's to high 60's for all transponders.

The signals here in Nashville are slightly higher than DaveFormula is getting in North Carolina so it probably indicates the footprint favors the west slightly which is what we expected.

Which if it is the case, we need people in the southwest in Texas and Arizona to try with larger dishes to get readings, and then someone to make a guestimate map based on the readings in this thread as well as other sites on the net where this is being talked about.

WooHoo

60s eh? The best I can get is 61% and it shifts from 57% to 61%

It would appear so. I've spent too much time today, on the roof, trying to squeeze out a few more % points on both sat. 82 w/ 76cm Winegard and sat. 91 w/ 55cm BEV dish.

Here is what I see after coming in the house and doing a signal check on both sats.

TP 91 82

2 74 43
3 95 100
4 100 52

32 86 54 was 57

I notice from your earlier posts that you saw new TPs today. I wonder how they scored here. Huh, the only one of you list that changed much here was TP 30.

Well, now you have it. What is seen here. There is one possible hope for improvement and that is when the leaves finish falling off of the neighbour's trees. That may be a possible attenuation factor as these are 60ft+ trees and he is on higher ground than me. Western NC is very hilly.

How do your TPs on sat. 91 w/ your BEV dish compare to mine?

Now I have mounted the 76cm dish in its permanent home, here are the TP readings for 82W in Nashville.

As you will see, they are stronger than what DaveFormula is getting in NC for all transponders. We both have the same dish so this should give some help in defining the footprint.

TP01 58
TP02 50
TP03 100
TP04 60
TP05 57

Followup on Nimiq 4 Strength in Central Alaska

Here's a photo illustrating the good strength on all transponders up here in Alaska (Fairbanks) on Nimiq 4, using 6' offset dish. Over 16db C/N on most.

i can lock all 32 transonders in Fisherville, VA on a 18 inch dish. TP10 is the lowest, TP3 is the highest. Signals are about 1% above the minimum, some are quite good like 30 and 32.

That is pretty good. Further up to the Northeast, I tried an 18 inch with a legacy LNB and got lower numbers than with the 24 inch.

Still not seeing TP's 1 and 5 above 41 at the evening and get less than 31 during the day. The rest seem to be locking at 51 - 65 with the exception of TP 2 and 3 which are at 100.

I did play around with the repoint and noticed from past marker notations on elevation, that the dish needs to be a bit higher on elevation now to get the ideal numbers. It's definitely moving around with the late evening numbers being better.

I still think I'm leaning towards cancelling BEV. Don't care to be their eternal guinea pig at this rate.

30 inch dish arrived

I replaced my 18 inch with 30 inch dish and all signals are in the high70's or 80's . I am 20 miles from New York City and all channels are back in business. I wish my friends at CANAM could have helped.

Agreed. Simply not worth the hassle. I canceled the other day and I guess it takes 30 days since they want to squeeze one more payment out of you.

I'll look into StarChoice but probably not til spring.

Centeral Fl

Not getting anything on 82 here in Central FL other than an occasional lock on TP 2 and 3 at a 44-45 signal strength. I have a 20" dish and a 9200 receiver.

Has anyone had any luck or heard of anyone having any luck in florida with a larger dish?
