NY OTA Probs

I've not had a chance to REALLY sit down and troubleshoot this so I don't have all of the answers but I'm having issues with receiving some channels OTA out of NYC.

Of course, can't get WPIX and NBC (I know, low power, yadda yadda yadda). I can wait until they put up the new combiner or whatever they're calling it.

My real problem is PBS. When I first had Voom installed I wasn't getting it out of NYC or NJ. I called Voom and they told me the usual, "It's the FCC's fault/mapping issue," stuff. Anyway, I was able to view one (or both) channels (from NYC and/or NJ) for a while (at times) not long after I was installed. Now, I cannot get either of the channels, ever. Don't know why either.

Anyway, it's killing me as I'm a Nova junkie and have been unable to watch it lately. I'm thinking I'm better off with the NJ Network feed as the NYC feed turns off their digital broadcasts at night--when they do their HD stuff of course--I've emailed them complaining about it but I didn't get anywhere.

So, what should my first step(s) be in getting this problem resolved? Should I just call Voom and have them send someone over or does anyone have any ideas of things I can try?

yea I just started to have the same problem. I was getting the PBS from NJ and not I can not..

Channel 50 has not been on the air all the time lately. When it is
on, the VOOM program guide is wrong so you never know what is
playing. VOOM has been told of the program guide problem but they
have not fixed it. Channel 21 no longer broadcasts any HD as they
also own channel 13 which is where they now broadcast the high
definition. Channel 13 is either mapped incorrectly by VOOM or is
at such low power that no one has reported receiving it. If you are
looking for NOVA there does not appear to be a way to receive this
very popular PBS program unless you switch to another provider.

Same here I was getting NJN on 50-5 I believe now it's gone.
But It's also gone on my Sammy STB as well.

NY OTA Problems

Thanks Joe and others. I thought I was getting a little slap happy since I just KNEW I had gotten PBS before.

So it looks as though we're outta luck for PBS in Northern NJ for a while? Anyone know if the new combiner will help solve this? PBS is the ONLY OTA channel I really care about!

Rick,

according to what I heard. Channel 13 will be part of the combiner but it remains to be seen if they will turn their HD fee via OTA. Apparently they own WLIW as well and have turn off their HD feed and now 13 does not look like is transmitting their HD feed either. I am lucky that I still can get the PBS HD national from C.T. after 8pm.
