I have an old Tivo box, that I used for my kids, which my daughter came to tell me it was not working this morning. After checking it out, it looks like it finally died, it wont power up at all. It is several years old, so I am not surprised. I have the protection plan with D*, but am not sure this is covered, since it is so old and not in production any more. Any ideas what to expect from them?

I am not looking for a free handout, but don't want to pay out the a$$ for a new box and I have NO desire to sign another two year contract, so I'll just do without if I have to.

They will replace your TiVo with an equivalent DVR.

Not in my opinion ;)

For what its worth, directivo's are a dime a dozen on ebay/craigslist, and most if not all of them are officially 'owned'. You'll have to pay a $20 access card fee for them and maybe some other penny-ante fee.

I have two of them in a closet upstairs. Wish I could get back the $140 plus the cost of the 400GB drive upgrades, but I think they sell for about $35-40 these days.

Thanks cfb, Did not think of Ebay. I'll see what I can find!

I have a TiVo and I am praying for it to crash in order for Direct to replace it for free. I much prefer the HR2x's or R2x's over a TiVo anyday.

The problem with this theory is that they will likely replace it with an R16 or even an R15.

I wonder if they would make you pay full upgrade price to get an HR-series, or would they give you a break since they would be replacing one anyway.

I guess regardless I would have to sign a new agreement though.

If I remember correctly pflugerville is in the waco DMA. Do you get the waco locals or the austin locals? If you are in the waco local territory you used two dishes one of them for locals, which is no longer the case. they now come from the 99/103. If that is the case Directv will upgrade your tivo to an HDDVR for FREE being that you need mpeg4 for locals. If you are in the austin local territory, please disregard comment.

Yes! :)

If our old tivo's were 10-250's, my wife would have made me put them back. As it is they were R10's and she enjoys seeing how bad everyone on the daytime shows look in HD, so I have to keep wrapping tape and baling wire around these dang things!
