We have an older big screen Mitubisti that we bought years ago. It is HD1080 ready but we never had digital service until recently. The AT&T technician installing the U-verse said we couldn't get HD on our tv. He confirmed this with another technician and we thought we were out of luck.

Then we called a home theatre expert. He made a couple of changes in the settings on the TV and now we have AWESOME HD on our old TV.

So, if you have an older HD ready TV, don't give up. Call a pro!

Similar thing with my inlaws. They have a big Sony TV, regular CRT. Its 1080i capable. Technician said no way, HD is only on LCDs and Plasma. (hmmm is my 1994 Barco RPTV a plasma i think not :) ).

Then when i pulled out TV and showed him the back it says 1080i over the component.... so he was like oh ok cool. Hooked it up.

Well he hooked up the Svideo cable because thats HD in his mind.

I let him leave, hooked up the Component and it looks fantastic on the Sony.
