Panasonic Introduces World's First Portable Blu-ray Player

thats pretty cool, seems like there wouldnt be a need to have another player. this has a 8.9" screen for when traveling but when home you can hook it up with hdmi. thats pretty sweet if you ask me.

Not sure I'd want to let my 5-year old hold that on his lap in the back seat of the car. The portable DVD player we have gets hot enough. This thing probably gets REALLY hot. Not to mention... $800???

When they start giving the option to put them in the built-in vehicle entertainment systems, I'll get excited....

Several companies, e.g. Alpine, have demoed such products, but so far have not released. them. If you look at this Panasonic, they did announce a car seat mounting system.

If you look at Portable DVD history you will see that they to started with similar high priced players. Obviously they will have to come down more to become commonly offered by car manufacturers.
