The Panasonic Viera DX900 series will be the Japanese manufacturer’s flagship LED television for 2016. Two screen sizes are available, namely the 58? TX-58DX900 and the 65? TX-65DX900, with the latter being the first LCD-based 65-incher to meet the stringent “Ultra HD Premium” performance metrics (at least 1000 nits peak brightness and 90% DCI-P3 colour space coverage) defined by the UHDA. The TX65DX900 will feature a VA-type LCD panel and direct-lit LED backlight boosted by full-array local dimming (FALD) technology, with the number of dimmable zones said to be more than 300. The Panasonic DX900 will be rolled out in Europe initially.

Also receiving Ultra HD Premium certification is Panasonic’s forthcoming DMP-UB900 Ultra HD Blu-ray player. We first saw a prototype from the company exactly one year ago at CES 2015, but it’s only now that a retail version for countries outside Japan has been announced. The Panasonic DMPUB900 is slated to arrive in the UK and Europe in spring 2016, with the price likely to exceed £500.

Last but not least, the Osaka-headquartered TV maker announced that it’s finally bringing its critically-acclaimed Panasonic TX-65CZ950 OLED TV (which was until now only available to buy in the United Kingdom and Europe following launch at IFA 2015) to the US market. Because its peak luminance topped out at 450 cd/m2 and gamut coverage was limited to 86% DCI-P3, the 65in CZ950 won’t carry UHD Alliance’s “Ultra HD Premium” logo. Nevertheless, it still delivered the best overall picture quality we’ve seen on any television to date (in case you’ve missed it, here’s our very recent review).

Pansonic's DMP-UB900 will offer playback for Ultra HD Blu-ray discs along with HDR (high dynamic range) and BT.2020 wide color gamut support. In addition, the player features a new 4K High-Precision Chroma Processor which uses "an original high-accuracy multi-tap process to interpolate the decoded 4K (4:2:0) signals of Ultra HD Blu-ray content to 4K (4:4:4)." Likewise, THX certification, Wi-Fi, DLNA, Full HD Blu-ray 3D disc playback, and support for various apps and video services will be included as well. Finally, the player also features twin HDMI & 7.1-channel analogue audio outputs, and high quality audio parts with high-res audio support (including WAV/FLAC/MP3/AAC/WMA formats, DSD and ALAC).

The DMP-UB900 will launch later this year. Additional Ultra Blu-ray players from Samsung and Philips have also been announced.

It is supposed to come to the US at some point, but they aren't saying much. Hopefully it isn't like the BDT700 that never made it...

I like the extra HDMI output for the AVR. Not everyone uses their AVR for a video switch in addition to the audio signal processing/amplification.

How many 4K UHD sets were announced with more than a single UHD/HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 port? Most of the current generation of sets have only one. If you have this UHD BD Player and a Hopper 3, now you need a UHD-capable AVR to switch if your TV can't handle multiple UHD sources.

Panny UHD player looks like April for France:

Update 30/01: It's official, the Ultra HD Blu-ray player Panasonic DMP-UB900 will be marketed in France from April. The suggested retail price is set at € 899.

Integrating an LSI chipset update UniPhier inaugurated by the BDT700 DMP-then the DMP-BDT570 recent, the Ultra HD Blu-ray player Panasonic DMP-UB900 has much in common with its two predecessor. Besides the management of BD Profile 6.0 and reading Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVDs and audio CDs, video processing UB900 is the architecture around a 4K High CPU Precision Chroma with a 4K scaler Direct Chroma for scaling DVD and Blu-ray in 2160p Ultra HD, and 4K Chroma Up to 4K content upsampler chroma 4: 4: 4.

Several post-processing filters are integrated with a Sharpness on two axes of improvements filters outlines and noise reducers. In the audio section, the deck is equipped with five 192kHz / 32-bit and equipped with a new audio card electrolytic capacitors to stabilize the power supply, a capacitor and Mica LAN Common Mode Filter to avoid any disturbance of the signal other devices. We find many of audio processing modes such as 96 kHz Re-master, Digital Tube Sound, etc. Connectivity, it has 2 HDMI 2.0a outputs that will separate the audio and video streams, Panasonic also stipulates adding a clock to reduce jitter, and an analog output 7.1.

Looks like the UB900 player will be out around July at Value Electronics, Im sure others as well.

The Panasonic will be my first UHD Player, love the fact that it will convert HDR Content to SDR for non HDR sets.

Given only a handful of interesting titles, it will surely pay to wait and see what the market brings. Given that so many of the existing UHD TVs can't take advantage of the most distinguishing features of the format, I suppose it isn't surprising that things are moving at a snail's pace.

Rumor is that Oppo's player won't be out until 1st quarter 2017. Probably holds some water as they seemed to be proud that they cobbled together the LCD display and posted it on their FB page.

I will probably get the Panasonic as I can live without DVD-A and SACD physical media support since the player does support DSD and FLAC.

I've just purchased a second DX900 for our Minot home as the likely hood of seeing this TV in the U. S. Is slim. With Panasonic UB900 player thrown in free for the time being it was a no brainier. This set & Player are absolutely amazing.
