Thanks for posting Fred! I might play around with this!

Sorry in advance.

Does anyone else find it ironic that the program is called pi-hole and it blocks porn?;)

TOO FUNNY! Pi holes are from where you speak, or fill with fuel.
as in "shut your pie hole"/
Hostsman - abelhadigital.com (windows) or in linux replace the hosts file with the MVPS hosts file
Board won't let me type the whole code to do so. but starts with sudo entered into terminal. then your editor. for the rest you'll have to \google: edit host file [your flavor of Linux] as the board wont allow any part of the rest of the code. (make sure the response is fairly current. those from 5 yrs ago -???

Use the Pi as a hardware based ad blocker and malware filter for all devices on your network.
The Pi becomes your DNS server on the network, and protects all devices.

I use dnscrypt to connect to remote DNS servers. dnscrypt is used to encrypt your DNS queries (if you're interested in privacy). Some of the dnscrypt servers block sites known to serve up malware and porn. There is a version of dnscrypt for Windows, Mac, Android, etc. (https://dnscrypt.org/). The best place to put dnscrypt is on your router and direct all the hosts on your LAN to use it.

Anyway, I tried to set up my router to do this adware/malware stuff but it caused my router to repeatedly crash. Most of the info for doing this was written years ago so it's hard to find current stuff to do this. I'll get it working eventually but it's not a high priority for me since my browsers already have addons that allow me to blacklist/whitelist whatever. Anyway, I might try out the Pi even if it's just for fun. I'm just mentioning that routers can supposedly do this without additional hardware. In most cases, you need to find third party firmware to install in your router so that you can do this and other "fancy" stuff (such as openvpn, dnscrypt, etc) - unless you have the bucks to buy a commercial/business grade router.

I tried this Pi Hole and it slowed down my internet to a crawl. My 150 MB service was down to about 20 mb/s took out the Pi box and went back to my old settings and the speed came back again.
