Polling for Signal Strength

Is there a way to display the current signal strength so that it updates every few seconds? I'm trying to place my antenna, but it's becoming difficult to see which position is the best.

So here I am carrying my latop around to all sides of my apartment and out on my patio restarting until I can find a signal.

This has been a huge waste of my time so far.

Any tips to make this easier would be greatly appreciated.

When working with an XM radio, the signal strength is updated approximately every 5 seconds. With working with a Sirius radio, the signal strength is updated whenever the radio feels like sending it, usually every 30 seconds or so.
