if ordering a 3D movie from amazon uk and it does not say region free would it play in my 3D dvd player?

Nope. Blu-ray is region locked as is DVD. UK and US are different regions.

Further, Amazon UK does a good job listing the region coding of their BDs and DVDs. If it is not locked it will say "All Regions" in the technical info.
