Sat pirates busted

I'm always amazed everytime I go to Calgary for business how you can drive down the street and see house after house (keep in mind in calgary a lot of the development is in no-easment subdivisions) with 2 or sometimes 3 Dish Network dishes on them. 15,000 users is piddley considering there are >2million people in calgary alone.

I think they should charge or somehow penalize the 15,000. I know it's a lot, but that would send a REAL signal, and the pirates' customer base would dry up.

How do you know ?

How do you know for sure that they are pirating? I am not referring to the ones in the article. Maybe they are buying through someone in the US just like people in US will buy Canadian services. Seems to be a lot of Paranoia on here about Pirating. I seen a post about someone wanting to unlock his guide so he could see Porn channels listed and someone jumped right on that saying he wanted to steal programming. Had the same happen to me when I was asking questions about different LNB's to get dish with. I pay for it.....I just wanted to try and improve signal during rain. That 1000 dish is a piece of crap.....tooo small.

Because I have been asked enough times by enough people who I come in contact with during my "day job" trips to Calgary if I am want them to get me a *special* box from their 'provider' and that the common comment back when I ask "does anyone here pay for sat tv" is "most don't". So I'll believe the native canadian, over the assumption at this point. Don't think I was jumping down anyones throat by saying that 15K seemed like a piddly number. But, there you have it.

Sorry I did not mean to aim my comment at anyone in particular. I forget to post in a way as to not single anyone out.

That was me that "jumped all over the person." What is a legit reason to want to "unlock" a box. I seriously doubt he wanted to just read the channels in the guide. He just didn't understand what unlock was. It was obvious that he wanted to see the actual channels.

I understand what unlocking means, but if you read the post that is not what the poster was implying. Either way, we can agree to disagree on this one. I am very against stealing and want to make sure that no one on here is talking about it!
