Please do not turn this into an argument. That is not my intent.

I am just curious from the guys with the tools to tell, what they are transmitting at the resolution at?

I know Verbano has the know how to tell, and I am pretty sure there were 2 or 3 others.

I just remember Verbano because he has been so outspoken about it! :D

At any rate, I am just curious what the resolutions are?

I wish I had the tools to tell from a technical standpoint, but I don't... all I can tell you is that the PQ is fantastic - honestly better than a lot of the stuff that I'm getting from the networks OTA...

Most all looked great. The only issue I saw as A&E HD's PQ - it didn't look too good when 24 was on earlier. Maybe it was the source content, not the broadcast. I'll check again tonight when I get home from work. The rest looked almost as good, if not as good as FiOS HD. We had FiOS for about a year before we moved last month and I am glad to see the new D* HD rivals it!.

Wish I had the numbers but doing side by side comparisons it looks better than the HD stuff in the 70s.

Did notice on the HR20-700 sound was off a bit from matching the video maybe Directv has a bit more work to do.

All in all not bad! This bird can handle 100 HD channels without over compression and D11 to be launched in Dec. will add 50 more.

I you can't tell if its full HD or HD lite just by looking... what difference does it make???

Can't really evaluate it without looking at the stream. Don Landis has already stated that they were screwing with more than just the resolution and bitrates.

Is A&E HD a 720p channel or a 1080i channel? Googling it indicates 1080i, but it's 720p on D*.

Exactly.

Trust me, you can tell a difference if your TV is good enough to display it...

That is quite true but the stream will tell the whole story :D. At this point we can't say one way or the other except for people's perception which it is subjective on their perspective.

I am sure someone will get the right equipment and will do it. It is just a matter of time. :D

I am told by a friend in engineering that its going out full resolution with minimum compression.

I am told that they are watching some material side by side with Fios and the DirecTV feed looks better.

I plan on doing a side by side test tonight between DirecTV and Dish.

And BTW I believe A&E HD is only transmitted in 720p, it is not a 1080i channel.
