I've been thinking about getting a Blueray dvd player but my tv is only 720p/1080i. Would it be a good idea or do I need a 1080p tv to get the best results? Thank you for any info.

dont think you will be abel to tell a difference. depends on how big your tv is and how far away you sit. i have 1080i and BR & hd dvd on 50 " sitting about 8' away and im very happy!!

I watch blu-ray on a 46" 1080p Panny plasma and on a 720p 32" Samsung LCD. Getting a BD player for the later was definitely worth the upgrade to get maximum benefit from the TV. It actually accepts the 1080p signal from the BD player, as many of the newer 720p TVs do now. And prior to getting the 1080p plasma in Nov. 08, I watched blu-rays on a 34" 1080i CRT TV from my PS3 for over a year ... loving every minute of it.

Just echoing what everyone else says. BR makes a big difference on my 56" 720P Toshiba DLP, and my 32" LCD.

The only time 1080P is going to make a big difference is when you are sitting very close to the set (like when you look at them at Best Buy)

Vizio now out of the Plasma business too
