Is there any harm standing the Hughes DVR on its side? If I upgrade to the HD DVR downstairs I'd like to move my SD Dvr upstairs into a small armoir. I'd need to stand it on its side 9like my D*STB) currently is.

Any reason this is bad for the unit? It's okay for PC's so I don't see a reason it would harm the hard drive.

I can't think of any reason why that would hurt it, other than maybe some superficial scratches on the case.

Just make sure any air vents aren't blocked, and you should be ok.

This is what the tivo website says about it. It would probably be fine but might cause a problem. If something goes wrong, just dont tell them it was on its side.

Can I Position the DVR on Its Side?

The TiVo Digital Video Recorder (DVR) was designed to sit flat on the four supports on its base. Use of the DVR in a sideways position has not been tested. It is possible that this configuration can change the heat dissipation and vibration characteristics of the DVR, and for that reason we cannot recommend it.
