Stargate Universe

I've rewatched most of the pilot for SGU and I have to admit, the first hour really is interesting and showed promise. After that though, and ever since, it's been right down the toilet... I seriously don't know that even some retooling would save this show now...

I've never bailed on a show mid season, but SGU more than deserves the honor of being the first.

SGU is not SciFi nor is it drama. Honestly, its not a lot of things that it should be. Soaps are written better than this garbage.

The last few episodes i've been trying to pin the style of the show ... it seemed vaguely familiar.... the complete randomness, lack of plot and its lack of creativeness by using blatant rehashed story lines of several sci fi shows.

Then it dawned on me; If the Wayans brothers decided to do a slap stick comedy on sci fi, you would get SGU.

If by next season they get rid of the nerd and the girl he longs after it would help repair some of the damage.

Nah, too many design flaws.

Exactly. The concept had promise, but the execution of it was flawed almost from the start. This will likely be the first sci-fi show that I've bailed-out on mid-season, once I started watching it from the beginning.

I could list a lot of shows in the sci-fi genre that I've watched over the decades and this one will quite likely be the only one I've stopped watching this soon in it's run. That really shocks me...and it should send a message to Syfy and the writers and exec producers of SGU.

This show, in order to keep me viewing after next week, would really need to pull a 180...and I don't see that happening...

Really given the episodes, 1/2 the show seems to be about body switching... At least that is what you would think. Hmm I am an overweight out of shape nerd, but now I get to go out and party with a hot body and pick up chicks... Hmm if I make love with my wife using this body will she fall in love with the real owner of the body and develop a love triangle... Hmm will my lesbian spouse accept me in this less attractive body, or does she love me for the inner me... How do I manage to tell the ones I love I am alive but am in this other body but they cannot know so I will pretend to be a good friend...

I am surprise they have not done the whole gender change, they seem to have conveniently avoided that so far, but perhaps they will explore what happens with the lesbian couple if she comes back as a he for the night...

Why are they even in space? Don't these magic rocks work closer to home? Could they not just make a whole series like this... Oh wait they did... Quantum Leap...

"Hey honey, you think next time you could come back as a woman? I've always wanted to know what girl-girl is like and this way it wont be cheating. I'd prefer a blonde."

*cue silly porno music*

Nice to actually have an interesting episode with an unexpected ending. They just mentioned using the stones, we did not have to watch them explore another body switching episode.

It looks like they are trying to retool some.

What I do not understand is why they cannot dial back planets? The ship is not going that fast. Based on what they have said it appears that it takes 20-50 years to travel through a galaxy, so why cannot they still dial other planets in the galaxy? The next time the stop they could dial up Rush's planet and get him back if he is still alive. But, I bet he gets in the alien ship, gets it to work and meets up with them later.

The guy that sat in the chair will probably mostly recover with side effects that will keep others from sitting in it. I am betting he will get flashes of knowledge to help them with the ship as the plot lines need. Or, perhaps they will have him have an episode or 2 where he has the knowlege like O'Neal and works furiously to unlock the ship and interface with their equipment so they can continue after he dies.

About Rush...
I figured the same thing...he'll figure out that ship, get it to work, catch up with them (how he'll find them, not sure) and the whole mess between him and Young starts up again.

Dialing back...
Great question...probably they've never tried it because they never had a reason, until now...

Chair guy...
If he lives, he'll replace Rush, figure out the ship, train the kid and then die.

I don't know that they've retooled it yet, but 1 good (mostly good?) episode hardly does a series make. They've got me hanging on and keeping my timer from being deleted, especially since V is gone until March, but when they come back, they need to keep up the pace or the timer goes...I'll give them 4 more episodes to keep me or lose me...

What I meant by retooling is that they seem to be adjusting the cast. Maybe they will use the body swap a lot less in the show, saving it for special guest stars.

Wow - an episode that was worth watching. I loved it.

I would have airlocked Rush myself. Leaving him on a planet is not bad, of course, they did leave him with a ship...

I think it gets at least one or two more episodes in the second half of the season.

I just can't stand Ming-na's character; then again, she is IOA, so it goes with the territory. Only thing worse would have been Senator Kinsey. :)

So... SGU got renewed for 20 more episodes, after the 10 airing next April - June. Doesn't surprise me. Sigh-figh can't afford NOT to have a "stargate" program in its lineup, even though this show barely resembles Stargate. I wonder if anyone at all will be watching by the end... :)
