Slowed down for less heat and wear too, thus longevity too.

They always have, just not for the blacks:

I have pointed out that they changed it as posted on their website they no longer offered it. They may have changed the policy before the blacks came out. I am beginning to think that you are trolling. I have several reasons on why I am going with the blacks and your not going to change my mind anytime soon. I am going for performance, and I am sure WD stands by their products otherwise they wouldn't offer a 5 year warranty on them.

I'm not trolling, you asked for opinions. Now apparently you don't want them.

Blacks have a similar spec sheet with the MTBF spec shown as unlisted.
Reds are made especially for for RAID setups which is what you are doing.
Your network will be the choke point anyway, so just trying to help you save $300.

Sorry for the discussion and exchange of ideas, I'm out.

You are jumping the gun here Bob.
Fred knows what he is talking about as this is stuff he deals with at his job and has been doing this for years.
I have leaned on Fred's expertise here and via phone/email more than once.
It's your money or credit card buy what you wish.

Now having said that, Fred is just trying to save you some bucks and offer his advice as you asked.
We're all friends here, stop and count to ten. :D

your not going to change my mind anytime soon
I saw that several posts back. :D

I could be jumping the gun. Yes but there is price vs performance. I wanted performance over nas reliability. In the end of it, I dont think there is that much of a difference. With that said... Here is a good review on the blacks and they perform better than the greens. The money factor isnt really that much of a diffrence for me as I want performance.

With that said, it's a lot cheaper but simular is some of the toshiba drives and the toshiba ones have me thinking about trying them out, but I think I am going to stay away as they dont have as good of reliablity as the WD's do and havent been tested. It's not clearly set in stone as I want the NAS ability, I also want the performance factor over the NAS ability / reliablity. That's why I keep going aroud and around between reds and blacks.

I am seriously looking at the HGST Deskstar 4tb as an alternative option. They seem to have better speeds and reliablity than the WD's.
