I was going to look at sideloading it, but I do enough tech support for everyone as it is. They can get a Roku or wait for the official app. It sounds like it is close from what I read on reddit.
I think they will like it, I’ll add my extra HD homerun to their network and they can use my Plex Pass or the Silicon Dust dvr service if they want for locals not on YTTV.

The Roku interface layout is much simpler to use for non-tech people. Just a grid of apps in the home state.

YouTube is already back and officially supported on Fire TV. Waiting on YTTV official app and am currently getting by with the sideloaded version.A fair point. Either way, it shouldn't be too long now before the app shows up:

In an industry that is moving so fast, it is imperative not to get hung up on anecdotal reports that are more than a few months old. Both streamer software and OTT services are changing relatively quickly (and not always in the right direction).
Well after spending most of the afternoon yesterday setting up Plex DVR, HD Homerun and a couple of Rokus, my sister was really liking it and my brother in law liked the single device to access everything. So my sister called to cancel this evening, but apparently they are still under contract until December for a Hopper 3 upgrade in 2017. So will be a few months. The csr gave them $40 a month in credits as they have been with Dish for over a decade, so the cost is just a bit more than YTTV.
Will revisit it in a couple of months. Cox must have sensed I was looking around. Got my bill notice tonight and my bundle discount was $20 more than usual on this months bill. Hard to leave when I'm getting 200 channel advanced basic, 150/10 internet with owned Tivos for $113
That's good news. I have a couple of FireTV boxes I stopped using because they didn't support YTTV. The Roku devices I'm currently using are always freezing for some reason when they start up nothing responds except TV power button and volume control until reboot. I'll switch those out for FireTV when the app arrives.
I've had similar issues with Rokus. My Firesticks have similar problems, but much less often.

No satellite internet involved. Windstream is a traditional phone service. Copper DSL in older neighborhoods like mine and Fiber to the Home in newer neighborhoods like my sisters. They just limit the fiber speeds anywhere from 15/1 up to 500/500 around here. A few areas they offer gig.
I'm on copper DSL of some type also. Recently purchased home across town (2 miles) and Centurylink offered 40/5 same price so I took it.
How are they getting 40/5 on single copper line now? My old service was 20/3 ADSL+ using 2 lines on the modem. Now only 1 line is connecting but I get a solid 38/5. I'm actually further away from hub now so its a mystery what they are using. I Hate to call them and ask because the call center is a nightmare.

CenturyLink has been rolling out G.Fast for the past couple of years.
It would have to be VDSL2 at a minimum to get 5Mbps up, but CenturyLink has been rolling out G.Fast over their ADSL/2 footprint, so I suspect that.
I had VDSL2 from Frontier for a few years, and I was very happy with it -- better latency than DOCSIS 3.0 at the time.
Consolidated Communications recently switched my service to this protocol as well. I had "bonded pair" ADSL before, for 20/1.5 and now I have one line on 50/10. Very happy with it.
Signed up for a month to see if wife can get use to interface. Currently on Dish Hopper/Joey. Looks like it's not going to happen.
1. No way to get program description while scrolling through live guide.
2. Most shows, movies added to DVR won't commercial skip.
3. Have to subscribe to Philo to get a few channels we want. Two apps, 2 pita guides.
Overall I am happy, but no way she will get on board. YTTV + Philo = $76. Dish Flex with Hopper and Joey and movie pack = $99. So $23 to get much better DVR interface, no time limits, much better/easier guide ui, Ehd recording, primetime recording, better commercial skip. And if I dropped Dish service plan (should have done 15 years ago!), Dish is only $89. We don't watch sports other than locals
