I think with fiber, the upload speed is equal to the download speed. Is there some other advantage to fiber over non-fiber?

AT&T is laying fiber in my neighborhood, a company called Bluewater is doing the work, amazed they are doing it since we have Charter here with the fastest speed available, so to my benefit they will probably have a price war, will still switch to fiber based on the upload speeds, I have great download, but upload always taps out at 45.
Our electric Co is laying the fiber for their entire service area, with our neighborhood expected to be online in a month or so. Cable co already offers Gig speed, but Ill swap for the same reason you will, along with the lower price and the no data cap.
At Higher and Higher prices ...
Thats WHY I Won't be going to Fiber anytime soon, as I mentioned earlier, the offer they give me cost me almost 2x what I pay now.
What I have now in broadband at 100 mb, which is fine if the next step up is twice the money.
Not all Fiber companies offer Symmetrical speeds.. Also Comcast is pushing over 2Gig also on Coax. You like to toot the fiber horn but you clearly dont know enough And yes prices vary incredibly from area to area
No, Comcast does not over 2 Gbps service over coax. What you're referring to is their Gigabit Pro tier which is delivered via fiber. It's only available to a sliver of homes -- you must be located near a Comcast fiber node -- and there's a big install charge. And the ongoing monthly cost is $300. And it has a 2-year contract.

No, Comcast does not over 2 Gbps service over coax. What you're referring to is their Gigabit Pro tier which is delivered via fiber. We had Directv satellite since 1996. We just changed over to stream in December. Love it so far. We have the Stream Osprey box on our main tv and use Roku on secondary TVs.
I have the Ultimate package for the $104.99 price. I believe Ultimate was around $130, on sat. Plus with stream there’s no $10 Hd fee and no additional receiver fee. Up to 20 devices in same home with 3 out of home.
There are a hand full of channels not on stream. Mostly the infomercial and religious channels.
Also all channels on stream are HD may be less than 5 in SD.
Even CSpan channels are HD. All the Encores are HD. There are channels not on Directv sat like H&I ( Heroes and Icons) and Fox Weather.
Also record as many channels at once as you want. Dvr available on the go. Local channels on the go.
