Toshiba #1 in US while Sony set to cut 160 jobs

Obviously, some PS3 owners are buying Blu-ray discs, since Blu-ray discs are outselling HD DVD by about 2 to 1 - and there are many more HD DVD dedicated players than BD dedicated players.
Obviously. And using that fact one can calculate the attach rate and deduce that HD DVD owners are buying far more movies just to keep it at 2:1. And using that fact one can easily see how the cheaper HD DVD players will be incredibly significant in catching up and passing BD media sales.

Yep. If there aren't cheap Blu-ray players also. Why do you think Sony would just stand around and do nothing to counter cheap players?

Actually, all we hear is rumors. There are no firm announcements that "X Corporation will introduce a player in (pick a month or quarter) with an MSRP of $Y" where Y is $200 or so. $400 is nice, $300 is better, $200 wouldn't even have to be particularly good or full featured to sell.

Rumors of cheap players abound. Official announcements and commitments are rare. It's all just part of the game- FUD generation (on both sides) to try to win market share.

HD-DVDs already going out of print?

Retailers to ditch HD-DVD by next year?
