Yes SD is SD, but there are some channels that as of now, thats the ONLY option to view them, and I would take better SD than no improvement.

Yeah agree.. Anything that can help is always a plus for sure.. :)

Well I am keeping my hopes up on the better PQ with the MPEG 4 SD channels... ;)

What is the point ?

Each of the SD channels is being replaced with an HD channel.

Even if the SD channel looks better, it is still 4x3 not 16x9.

The whole "Eastern Arc" is 100% Marketing, it has two sales aspects:

- Single Dish
- New SD customers get an HD-capable receiver installed as default, so that when they buy an HD TV, they automatically have access to Dish's HD channels without needing a new receiver and installation.

Note that the Eastern Arc will duplicate programming already on 110-119 (just as has been done with 129), so it doesn't provide a net bandwidth increase, instead it provides a net marketing increase...
