[VOOM] Install!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, now I guess I get my turn to give my opinion of the install I was
supposed to have today! My wife took today off so we could get the install
today, they guy gets there and I guess goes out and tries to find out where
he needs to put the dish up. He comes in and tells my wife that he can't
get a signal anywhere. He says that the two story house (which is 2 houses
down) is in the way and won't allow for a clear view.
My wife calls me and tells me what the guy says, I ask to speak to him
and she put him on the phone. He tells me the same story, I ask him if he
tried to put it at the highest point of the roof, he says that he can't get
a good view there. I tell him that I can't believe that their satellites
are so low in the horizon that this is an issue. He then tells me that this
has been a problem before and in fact had this problem with the house just
before mine. This kinda raised a flag with me.
Once I get home I ask my wife what size dish he brought, she said that it
was a small round dish that looked smaller than my DTV dish. This wasn't
supposed to be what they brought, in fact I had confirmed it twice with two
different reps....that I would be getting the 24 inch dish, but obviously I
didn't get it.
I call VOOM and after being transferred around several times, the guy
tell me that he can't get ahold of the installation dept because they are
very busy. But would have a manager call me anywhere from an hour to
sometime tomorrow. But he would go ahead and set me up with a new install
and would have to wait approx. another 7-10 days.
Not trying to bitch or anything, just really confused on how a company
can have so many horror stories on their installs?!?!?!?!? And also curious
if this sounds like a dish problem, installer problem, or are their sats
that low in the horizon that something as simple as a two story hour, two
houses away would block the view?!?!?!?!?!

I see you're outside the Phoenix, AZ area. .. so no, Voom would not be "low"
on the horizon. The installer is full of crap and you need to get Voom to
get his supervisor or change installer companies.

How can I find this info myself for back-up? I am in Chandler which is
the east valley, he said something about it being 20 degrees up, or
something like that. I will definitely keep trying, I do think most of it
was the installer......plus, two in one day?!?!?!?!
Thanks for the reply. ;)

How can I find this info myself for back-up? I am in Chandler which is
the east valley, he said something about it being 20 degrees up, or
something like that. I will definitely keep trying, I do think most of it
was the installer......plus, two in one day?!?!?!?!
Thanks for the reply. ;)

Their Sat, Rainbow 1 at 61.5 degrees West is not low actually, but it is in the East, so if you are on the West Coast it would be a potential problem for you. For me on the East coast it is a slight bit East of due South which makes it a relatively high look angle here. Unless you have trees all around you would expect to find a spot on your roof. Where are you located? I have heard of problems in the NW.

Wilt rocks!! Thanks for relaying my de-install issues btw. I was contacted
and we were going to do a box if the de-install failed again; however they
showed up on the last attempt for the 30 second visit. You and your team
prove that someone cares.

Thanks!

Chris

Thank you, but I am not sure it matters anymore. I spoke to a manger
today and she is claiming that I am not going to be able to pick up a signal
from where I am at. This has been a real annoying experience!!!!! I would
think if it is that hard to get a VOOM signal that they would check out the
customers location before setting up and sending out an installer?!?!?!?!?

I am in Arizona, so maybe this is close enough to the west coast?!?!?!?

Their Sat, Rainbow 1 at 61.5 degrees West is not low actually, but it is in
the East, so if you are on the West Coast it would be a potential problem
for you. For me on the East coast it is a slight bit East of due South
which makes it a relatively high look angle here. Unless you have trees all
around you would expect to find a spot on your roof. Where are you located?
I have heard of problems in the NW.

Ok, now I guess I get my turn to give my opinion of the install I was
supposed to have today! My wife took today off so we could get the
install
today, they guy gets there and I guess goes out and tries to find out
where
he needs to put the dish up. He comes in and tells my wife that he can't
get a signal anywhere. He says that the two story house (which is 2
houses
down) is in the way and won't allow for a clear view.
My wife calls me and tells me what the guy says, I ask to speak to him
and she put him on the phone. He tells me the same story, I ask him if he
tried to put it at the highest point of the roof, he says that he can't
get
a good view there. I tell him that I can't believe that their satellites
are so low in the horizon that this is an issue. He then tells me that
this
has been a problem before and in fact had this problem with the house just
before mine. This kinda raised a flag with me.
Once I get home I ask my wife what size dish he brought, she said that
it
was a small round dish that looked smaller than my DTV dish. This wasn't
supposed to be what they brought, in fact I had confirmed it twice with
two
different reps....that I would be getting the 24 inch dish, but obviously
I
didn't get it.
And also
curious
if this sounds like a dish problem, installer problem, or are their sats
that low in the horizon that something as simple as a two story hour, two
houses away would block the view?!?!?!?!?!

I'm in Chandler and the installer put the dish low on my fence in the south face of the property, with it looking right above my 3rd garage, and he was able to get a good signal. We're at Riggs and McQueen if that helps. I'm sure that if he didn't mind going up on the roof we probably would have had an even better signal, but he cheated a little and is using a serious angle between perpendicular (had to look that one up!) with the dish and the LNB, but it works. Not sure of the coordinates but I do know it can work.

I like it very much. I'm missing TIVO though and admittedly looking more closely at the current Dish Network options at present. Since I can't even buy a $1000 DVR from someone besides VOOM, much less VOOM, it's really becoming a problem. I may stick it out to the first of the year to see if they get it together, but I'm feeling less hopeful than when I started.

Picture quality tends to be excellent (a good trend) and we've had little interruption of services in the past. OTA stuff is okay but not stellar. May switch the antenna back to the Mitsu TV and let it handle the tuning. Had 3 DVR units before VOOM so the TIVO / DVR jones is really starting to sneak up on me.

I see you're outside the Phoenix, AZ area. .. so no, Voom would not be "low"
on the horizon. The installer is full of crap and you need to get Voom to
get his supervisor or change installer companies.

John

I'm glad you like it so far! As far as the Tivo thing, I don't acre much
...I have never had one. I have been waiting for the HD version and by time
that came out I started looking at VOOM. I personally would rather have
more HD and no Tivo, though Tivo would be nice......but HD is what I am
looking for!
How would you say the picture quality is to cable or the other satellite
systems?

I like it very much. I'm missing TIVO though and admittedly looking more
closely at the current Dish Network options at present. Since I can't even
buy a $1000 DVR from someone besides VOOM, much less VOOM, it's really
becoming a problem. I may stick it out to the first of the year to see if
they get it together, but I'm feeling less hopeful than when I started.

Picture quality tends to be excellent (a good trend) and we've had little
interruption of services in the past. OTA stuff is okay but not stellar.
May switch the antenna back to the Mitsu TV and let it handle the tuning.
Had 3 DVR units before VOOM so the TIVO / DVR jones is really starting to
sneak up on me.

I'm in Chandler and the installer put the dish low on my fence in the south
face of the property, with it looking right above my 3rd garage, and he was
able to get a good signal. We're at Riggs and McQueen if that helps. I'm
sure that if he didn't mind going up on the roof we probably would have had
an even better signal, but he cheated a little and is using a serious angle
between perpendicular (had to look that one up!) with the dish and the LNB,
but it works. Not sure of the coordinates but I do know it can work.

For people who have never had a DVR, they have no idea what they're missing.
For those of us who have had and lost it with Voom, it is a huge issue. I
had been trying to get my best friends to get a DVR for years and they
always thought I was a little off my rocker. Until about a month or so ago
when they got their first one. The wife told me last week "I don't know what
I love more, the DVR or the Harmony Remote control, but I'd be lost without
both of them".

I'm glad you like it so far! As far as the Tivo thing, I don't acre much
....I have never had one.

Interesting, though you are a little more rural than I am, I am on

They are going to try again on Friday, I think if the guy isn't afraid to
get on the roof, he could place it at the high point of the roof.
By the way, how do you like it now that you have it?

I'm in Chandler and the installer put the dish low on my fence in the south
face of the property, with it looking right above my 3rd garage, and he was
able to get a good signal. We're at Riggs and McQueen if that helps. I'm
sure that if he didn't mind going up on the roof we probably would have had
an even better signal, but he cheated a little and is using a serious angle
between perpendicular (had to look that one up!) with the dish and the LNB,
but it works. Not sure of the coordinates but I do know it can work.

for back-up? I am in Chandler which is
the east valley, he said something about it being 20 degrees up, or
something like that. I will definitely keep trying, I do think most of it
was the installer......plus, two in one day?!?!?!?!
Thanks for the reply. ;)

I see you're outside the Phoenix, AZ area. .. so no, Voom would not be "low"
on the horizon. The installer is full of crap and you need to get Voom to
get his supervisor or change installer companies.
