Anyone else in New York City have trouble getting PBS? I can get the major other antenna
based channels, but not PBS. I think maybe all the others come from the Empire State
Building, but that one come from a different direction.

It depends where you are in NYC. Where you getting channel 13 before? If you were, you are one of the lucky fews that can be counted on the palm of a hand. Channel 13 transmit from lower manhattan pointing to NJ at a very low power. Even people in NJ have trouble getting it. If you are talking about WLIW (channel 21) from LI, you are in bad luck becaust they stopped transmitting their HD signal via OTA. The only liable PBS is WNJN channel 50 from NJ but they do not follow the national PBS schedule. They have their own schedule and a few programs and only start transmitting HD after 8pm and stopped at 12am.

I live in SI, NY and cant get NBC or WNET.....or for that matter WPIX....but WNET really is supposed to service NJ so thats why they have their low powered Ant facing NJ.

Well it must be very low power, bucause I have a Channel Master 4228 and I am 20-25 miles form NYC and I still don't get it!

It's *very* low; I'm in Bethpage on LI and get NBC but can't see PBS or WB.

Hi:
How do you know which stations are transmitting at which powers? And when you know what power the station is transmitting, how do you know if you should be able to receive it? Also, the WB (WPIX) is the only digital OTA on a VHF station, does the VHF signal behave differently than the UHF signals as far as distance and power?

One more thing, do any of you NJ guys with large directional antennas think we will be able to get the PBS station from Philadelphia once we get the OTA scanning?

Thanks,
Joseph

PBS in NYC Area

I live in NJ about 10 miles from the transmitters and I cannot receive PBS from NYC--at least most of the time. I've gotten it from time to time but not recently. I cannot receive WNJN because it's in a different direction.

I'm not happy about it either since I love Nova. I also cannot get NBC or WPIX. Not a huge deal for me but I'd like to get them. I hear the new combiner should fix those two channels. I'm wondering if the combiner is on the same schedule as the new software and bigger dishes... ;)

Well Wilt,

How low can it go? I'm in North Bergen, NJ (07047) right on the
Hudson River. Direct line of sight to the ESB and the new Time
Warner building, both less than 3 miles away. Got my install on
Saturday. They brought along this Winegard Sensar II (I think
DS2000A) amplified antenna and ran it through the diplexor.

I get 2, 5, 7, 9 (5-2) and 11. The installer swears that this is all
I can expect. But this doesn't seem right.

For now until the combiner work is done at ESB, your installer is probably right. The only two channels you are missing are channel 4 and channel 13. both of these channels are low power (especially channel 13). Channel 4 you may get lucky but I do not know your area very well.
