With all the horror stories floating around, I thought I'd share my personal
experience from this AM. Nick from Dishconnect working out of Modesto, CA
stopped by. 90 minutes later I have Voom operational. OTA antenna is
installed, but pointed toward Sacto towers(I'm in Discovery Bay, CA) so I
can't expect any OTA until an update arrives allowing me to map Sacto rather
than S.F. stations. I'm about 20-25 miles from the towers with great line of
sight(it's flat central valley area) so I expect to have reasonable success
there.

BTW, it's not vital to me that I get everything OTA has to offer. I realize
this is leading edge tech still and as such can't(shouldn't) be expected to
work seamlessly from the get-go. I'm willing to ride the waves to have the
opportunity the proposed network/DVR solution brings later this year.

My TV is a 4 yr old Mitsu with only a single 1080i port and Comcast HD box
has to compete with the Voom box for that slot. I'll need to get a switcher
so the wife can have her "familiar" stations at quick disposal for now. I'm
impressed so far based on some quick channel surfing.

Kudos to Nick. He obviously knows his stuff about Dish installs in general
and Voom in particular. Put my mind at ease after reading the horror
stories. I really want to see Voom succeed and I think if all the techs were
all as sharp as him there would be a huge reduction in install related
problems and perhaps overall customer satisfaction would rise.
