[VOOM] Possible good news

I called Voom mid afternoon today and I spent less than 15 SECONDS
on hold before a CSR picked up.

I asked her whether or not VOOM had plans to pick up FOX regional
sports and her response what that they were "in negotiations for it,
but that is all they will tell us".

I responded "so, they are working on it?", and she said, "yes, but
we don't know anything more than that.)

I find that encouraging. If Voom gets local sports, than it's bye
bye, Dishnetwork for me. Right now it sucks paying 2 dish bills.

I would be willing to pay extra for my local (Chicago) sports- say,
another $5 or $10 a month for it. If it allows me to cancel DISH,
then I still come out ahead.

Would anyone else here pay extra for this?

let..me...thinkyes

I'd pay extra for RSNs in a heartbeat. HOWEVER: Voom saying they are in negotiations to carry Fox Sports Net is like me saying I'm in negotiations to drive my car. Voom owns Fox Sports Net.

The real issue is bandwidth, and Voom won't have enough of that to carry FSN until October, midway through the College Football season. And possibly just in time for a DVR?

What I want to know is why does Moov exist when it takes the bandwidth of 10 RSNs?? Drop Moov and the barker channel and you have more than enough right there! Moov does not attract subs, but RSNs do.

Thta is great to here on Fox Sports Net.That is sad to say that when they do own rsn's. Why don't everybody that hates that channel moov call up and tell them there dislike of the channel instead of complaining about it that's the only way we the customers get what we want.

Jeez... If you want to get PERFECTLY TECHNICAL:

Rainbow Media, parent company of Voom, owns a 50% stake in Fox Sports Net. News Corp, parent company of Fox (and almost everything else), owns the other half.

So it's like being in negotiations to drive your wife's car.

Actually, I didn't know that - I though it was all Rupert's.

THANKS!

D!

I watch MOOV often, but I NEVER watch Monsters. So, should I insist on releasing the bandwidth occupied by that channel too? :)

Seriously, VOOM's priority has always been HD. And until the 39-channel promise is fulfilled, and the bandwidth limit is reached, not a single HD channel should be sacrificed for SD channels, IMHO.

As for that "in negotiations" reply from the CSR, I think this is their standard (scripted) reply on any question of the "are you going to have this channel?" kind.

P.S. I do want to see RSNs on VOOM, and I believe we will. No need to sacrifice anything!

I loved that movie on Monster's "SHAFT" .. thought it was way cool!!

Dude, Keep your hands off my Moov! ( I just like how that sounds)

Really, the auction channel could get the axe- I think Voom will know what to juggle. For us in a LA it means watching the creaky old Lakers and the sore armed, "we are to cheap to pay for major league hitters, Dodgers".

FSN would be good for Voom, though.

Then why not give us RSN in High Def? that would be an HD for an HD. I like MOOV as well but I would give it up for Regional Sports. They should get rid of the auction channel

RSNs

I would love to see RSNs, too. I know this will bring subscribers. Moov, Ultra, Auction, etc.? Well, I don't think anyone is signing up because of these channels.

Honestly, I've heard all of the arguments for and against Moov and I just don't get it. I understand it's an eye candy channel but it's (basically) a waste of bandwidth. I'm sure there are people who love it and I would suggest they tell Voom they love it so they know but I really just don't think there are many people who love it enough where they'd miss it if it were gone. Heck, I'd also like to see them drop Ultra and the Auction channel but at least I, "get," these channels. Moov...I just don't get it.

The Rickster

Just adding the RSN's in one big blanket won't be enough though. They need to evaluate each area. FSN in Chicago or Philadelphia is a worthless channel. They don't carry any of the pro teams. VOOM would need to pick up the COMCAST Sports Networks in those markets. More and more markets are going to go that direction, where the actual teams have financial stakes in the TV channels.

I kinda think of Moov as one of those channels that folks would be smokin' pot to or tripping on acid while they are watching it. Geeze... you stare at it long enough and maybe you don't even need the drugs. Are there subliminal messages in that stuff?

Surely, surely, and more surely... there can't be that many people excited about it and Auction.

But I concur... no real reason to necessarily remove them until we can get other better attracting HD channels to replace them.

Okay... goin' to watch some Moov... I wanna get high.... hee hee.... NOT! j/k

Not true. FSN in Chicago carries Cubs, White Sox (baseball), Bulls
(basketball), and Blackhawks (hockey) games.

The channel is a must.
