Re: [VOOM] 80HD channels by 03/05 ???

First of all, the quote I read said "capacity for 70 channels", not
"70 channels up and running" by March 2005. Am I reading that
correctly in that there will be the bandwidth available by March but
perhaps, not the actual channels avaiable to customers yet?

I've been wondering which channels they might add myself. I've been
figuring and here's what I imagine might be in the works. This is all
guesswork though
1. HDNet
2. HDMovies
3. INHD
4. INHD2

Networks for those living in owned & operated markets, without OTA
reception, or able to obtain a waiver.
5. ABC-East
6 CBS-East
7 FOX-East
8 NBC-East
9 ABC-West
10 CBS-West
11 FOX-West
12 NBC-West
13 PBS National feed

HD channels that are or might be coming soon...
14 ESPN2
15 NBA TV
16 NFL TV
17 TCM TV
18 29HDN
19 HDNet - West
20 WGN-DT
21 TBS-DT
22 FOX Sports Net HD

Anyone else with ideas?

Jarrett

The Food Network is coming out with an HD channel in 2005.
Hopefully, with VOOM having just signed an agreement with Scripps
for their 5 channels including Food Network very recently VOOM will
be one of the first companies to carry the Food Network HD channel.

You're never going to see INHD or INHD2 on any satellite provider since those programming options are "only on cable" (see the attached logo). Moreover, I believe the corporate entity of these "channels," In Demand LLC, is wholly owned by one or more of the big cable companies. Part of the reason for separating VOOM from Cablevision (aside from the liability and capital separation concerns) is the cable vs. satellite jihad, as you basically have two competitors under one roof which is very, very difficult to manage.

Voom is currently suing In Demand for unfair practices because of the hgh cost they are charging for them to attain this channel. INHD1 & 2 will probably be on satellite.

I have no confidence in Voom being able to upgrade all the subs to the new dish by 3/05. Heck I got tired of waiting for my 24" upgrade and figure I can live with the occasional rain fade.

For $60 you can buy and install your own 31" dish. Mine work all=20=20

For the OTA replacement national feeds, you seem to have missed UPN-HD and WB-HD. Not a huge overlook, I admit, but some like Smallville or Everwood or Star Trek:Enterprise in HD options.

Sincerely,

Yes, you are correct - it is too much work to change the logo - even in exchange for the millions in revenue they would get from the satellite companies.

HBO used to say the same thing

Believe it or not, HBO used to say the same thing. They even sued some people who had a dish in there yard. Claiming these people were stealing there programming. At the time, HBO was not scrambled. Anybody (including myself), with a dish and reciever could watch them. The only scrambled signal back then was a movie service called "Orion". They would probably still be around had they offered their service to the people with a dish in there yards.
