Hello,
Yes you need a landline phone right now as well,Make sure
you have it connected as least twice a month that way for the
software updates as well as also when you upgrade and downgrade etc.
thats the signal they use to get it across to you in sec to your
box.you can have it unplugged in the mean time, just try to have it in
there a few times out of the month.Im not sure whats days they do
those updates, sorry! But,make sure of that ok,I hope I answered any
questions.

[VOOM] No, doesn't VOOM doesn't update through the phone line.

At this point it appears you really don't have to have a phone line
connected but are likely to need one in the near future--maybe by the
end of March. Definitely, will need the phone line for PPV.

When my installer installed the receiver he did not put the phone
line on. Said it was only for PPV and all they have in PPV is
Playboy. For the future. My question is do all I have to do is plug
the phone line it and connect it to a land line? How does it know
what number to dial? or does it do that automatically?

I know you claim to work for Voom so this is supposed to give your
posts here some authority, but this is just currently NOT correct. The
phone line is completely unused. Software updates and guide updates
all come down via the Satellite link.

If the phone line is currently needed for anything and you have
"inside" information, then you should be able to provide details of
what it's used for and when it needs to be connected. My box has never
needed the phone line. In fact, there isn't even a full phone number
stored in the settings so it can't even complete a test call.

This is true. I never connected my phone line until the caller ID was=20
attempted to be used. Since the caller ID is buggy, my phone line is=20
once again not connected. Software updates are and always will be via=20
satellite download unless the phone line can transmit above what a=20
cable modem is capable of which will be never.
