btw.. the sears store has a special for $399 that includes 3 receivers! I
almost bought it for my Dad but didn't because I really need to know what's
going to happen when VOOM releases their DVR. Does anyone have a clue? Will
everyone have to buy the DVR receiver out-right? If so, then people who buy
VOOM today are kinda getting hosed don't ya think?

As a retailer/Installer of Voom, I am disappointed to hear this first in a
forum.
If this is true (Sears offer of 3 for $399), I can't help but think that
Voom has the same B.S. disease that Charlie Ergen has.
I hope that you're mis informed OR that word of a similar offer is en route
to me as I type this.

I was there this morning. I saw the price myself and spoke with a salesrep.
It is true.

[VOOM] Re: Rent vs Buy

I've not heard of this offer so I can neither confirm or deny it.
It sounds a bit too good to be true.

I know Sears has the $399. for 1 box, $199. for each additional, and
no extra installation up to 3 boxes, 4 and up are an additional
$50.00 for install. This offer requires a Sears Certificate to be
purchased.

Perhaps the 'plus' pak offer still has me a bit gun shy. hmmm?

Hello. First off, allow me to introduce myself. I moved to Fredericksburg, VA last year but have been a lifelong VA resident. I just bought my first house a few days ago and, assuming nothing goes wrong, I'll be closing in mid-July. :) I'm very excited.

I also own a 48" Mitsubishi HDTV and am extremely interested in Voom service. I've been checking around the 'Net and came across you all. I've gotten a lot of help and am very appreciative of everything I've read here. You guys have been lifesavers.

Anyway, getting this train back on track, I just talked to a fellow at Sears who mentioned the $399 offer. He says that for $399 ($349 after the $50 certificate charge is refunded), Voom will offer full installation plus up to three receivers! (The receivers are sold, not leased.) He claims that a Voom rep came by last Saturday and gave him the info on a sheet that was being read to me over the phone. I don't see any reason to believe he's lying or seriously mistaken, assuming he was reading from the sheet. The offer apparently began June 1 and is supposed to be good through July 6.

Of course, when I called Voom to confirm, the guy knew nothing about the deal. In fact, he recommended that I call 800-GET-VOOM...which is how I called him in the first place! *sigh* Anyway, I'd sign up right now but need to talk things over with my roommates. Like some others here, I can't help but wonder if there's some sort of catch.

Assuming my roommates agree to do this (which I'm pretty sure they will), I'll report back on what happens.
