Is it the feeling of the group VOOM will add RSN's as soon as a new
bird is launched ???? Or is it more involved as far as having the
proper equipment in place for all the blackout rules in sports?
And if they do RSN's will the be bandwidth to give any in HD ?

I think it's pretty well assumed they are going to add them eventually. Perhaps with all the extra space this fall. A good number of RSN's will be broadcasting in HD, so it would make sense to add them is possible. I mean, it's not like a lot of other cable channels are racing to go HD right now.

It would make sense to do it. According to a lot of people, Sports Programming is what really has the potential to drive HD sales. A lot of sports fans probably won't switch to VOOM at all if they can't see their local teams play.

I know I'm already worried about missing the entire Bulls season this year. Anyway, the bigger problem comes when you start talking about which RSN's to add. Not every region of the country uses their local Fox Sports Network to broadcast the local pro teams.

Just take New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago for example. New York has YES, Philadelphia and Chicago will be on local COMCAST Sports Channels. Those pro teams actually own stake in their respective channels. More and more teams are going to go this route. So from VOOM's stanpoint, should they just add the Fox Sports Net package and be done? They'll be missing out on some huge markets.

It will be interesting to see what unfolds.

I think from a growth standpoint, they should start with the huge
sports markets to get the biggest number of potential subscribers,
then expand from there. Say, New York, L.A., Chicago, Detroit,
Boston. etc.

Easy for me to say, since I am in Chicago....

[VOOM] Re: RSN's

I know, I have VOOM & Cablevision and have to keep it for YES, MSGHD
and Fox Sports Net HD. I'd love to make VOOM my only provider.
But CANT MISS THE YANKEES and the Knicks & Rangers to a lesser extent.
LOL

[VOOM] Re: RSN's

In most of the large markets they aquired MVDDS licenses.
It wouldn't surprise me to utilize those for the local (sport)
networks in stead of using the satellite feed for the local stuff.

Just a thought....

I'm not sure if many are aware of this, but Rainbow owns outright 5 Fox RSNs, and has 50% ownership in the remaining. They have a vested interest in the Fox RSNs and will probably at least put up the 5 they own 100% when they get the extra capacity. I wonder why they didn't just place the RSNs on the tempoary space they have with TPs 23 & 24.

Ah here's the list (I knew I had it somewhere), Rainbow owns 100% of these:

Fox Sports Chicago
Fox Sports Florida
Fox Sports Ohio
Fox Sports New England
Fox Sports San Francisco

It's not like they would have to negotiate with anyone to carry the Fox RSNs :D

FSN Chicago will become almost useless, if it even continues to exist, come October. The Cubs, White Sox, Bulls and Blackhawks are all moving to the new Comcast Sportsnet that they will part own with Comcast. This new channel will be the one they want to carry.

C

But the problem with the Fox Sports Packages is that they are carrying less and less pro teams as I stated above. Fox Sports Chicago will no longer carry any Bulls, Cubs, Sox, or Blackhawks games starting next season. They will all be on a new Comcast Sports Chicago station that is partially owned by the teams themselves.

[VOOM] Re: RSN's

I just hope VOOM gets us the most bang for our buck with the RSN's.
Like with any channels in impossible to keep everyone happy.

Re: [VOOM] Re: RSN's

I don't think we will see any RSN until the second satellite is operational.

Lets hope that the RSN's will be on a seperate tier. I dont want my bill
going up because they added the Yankees. (Go Sox) :)

C'mon Scott, relax the lead is only 4.5 games LOL
Red Sox fans know deep down inside they dont really wanna win.
It's more fun being the woe is me tortured fan... If you loose that
what do you have left ??? It is cool though see the Sox loose alot
on INHD.. Just kidding well sort of...
