SportsCenter set for new, hi-def look

This Monday evening, like every other evening, will bring another
episode of ESPN's SportsCenter. But this particular night will
feature a show with new graphics and a new studio that will be
broadcast with high-definition technology.

The show on June 7 at 11 p.m. ET will be the first to be aired from
the network's new 120,000-square foot Digital Center at its Bristol,
Conn. headquarters.

Among other things, the show will feature "privacy glass," fiber
optics, liquid crystal display screens and a video tower. The
broadcast will still use a two-anchor desk, but on a fiber optic
floor with 4,000 points of light synched to music. The privacy wall
sits behind the desk, with six panels of Belgium-made glass, fogged
to display images such as team logos, player headshots and graphics.
Three synchronized projectors will be used to display the images,
ESPN said.

The new Digital Center also sports an 18-foot video tower, an update
desk, interview desk and a debate desk, as well as 12 high
definition projectors and 11 liquid crystal display screens (LCDS).

"All of us involved with SportsCenter are eagerly anticipating June
7th, when technology catches up with the content of our award-
winning program," said Norby Williamson, ESPN's senior vice
president & managing editor, in a release.

Wait does this mean that their displays in THEIR studio will be hi-definition or that ESPN SportsCenter will finally broadcast in 720p or 1080i?

lol, that would be funny. HDTV comes to Sportscenter, now all their screens in the studio are high definition. Seriously, I am pretty sure it will be broadcast in HD.

Of course I will be working at that time. Im going to have to catch it on the next day.

Well the post contains no details about the broadcast quality of Sportscenter (IE 1080i native or 720p like their sportsbroadcast, 16:9 etc..) it just talks about the stuff in the studio being state of the art.

I think it would be hilarious if they smile at you in lo-def, turn to their monitors and go "we can no see things in HI DEF!! You can too during the sports broadcasts!"

I like the poker better on The Travel Channel (Although I don't know what Poker has to do with Travel but I digress.)

Anyways thanks for the reminder, I need to record this tonight.

I have not been to ESPN in awhile, I was there when the new Digital studio was about half way done. and the place was HUGE!

I hear the set for tonights show is going to have a lot of people say WOW!
