[VOOM] The truth about OTA channels

Here's the skinny on OTA as I understand it.

As stated if it's in your guide, you still may not get it.

*IF* Installs thinks its a good shot, they will go the extra mile to
bring in as many locals as they can within reason. An out of pocket
expense may be required, if it gets too extreme.

If the channel isn't mapped into your guide, you won't get it through
the VOOM receiver even if the antenna is picking it up.

Off the Air is a tricky business and there are a host of variables,
most of us never think about until we're trying to get OT signals.

VOOM is working on resolution to these issues. I'm not privy to the
solution, nor do I have an estimated launch schedule for the proposed
fix. I DO know they are working on this issue very hard.

It is tricky. I live a pretty short throw to the towers, and still have issues with my OTA because of hills. The problem I have is that the installers aren't willing to come back out and help do something about it. In my case, I think they put the antenna in a bad spot on my roof. Getting them to move it however will cost me money out of my own pocket... never mind that I can't get any locals now that the trees have leaves.

Send me contact info, privately, to wilth@optonline.net.
Thanks,
Wilt

its tricky but its a fact of life for most HD sat users no matter what service you have. These affiliates have a legalized Mafia style lock on their territories and unless you live in the boonies and can qualify for distant network feeds from D* when they get them or in an O&O then OTA is the only choice. ANd if your affiliate sells out to USDTV or emmis then your quality network HD will be gone and you will have no option but to suffer with HD "lite".

I have exactly the same issue. I live only about 8-9 miles from the towers and still have some reception issues. It looks like the antenna is in a bad spot where some trees + adjacent building block the path while from the other side of the house I can even see the towers.
