Does any one know a reason or fix ? I have hooked a voom receiver to
a RCA rear projection tv using a dvi cable. this gives me a screen
in black and white and about 6 pictures. I have replaced the DVI
cable and tried another voom receiver also. The TV will work great
when hooked to a Dish Network receiver through the DVI. The componat
video does work ,but I would to use the DVI. anyone know a Fix.

Is the TV HDCP compliant?? Sounds like it may be a copy protection issue. Try unhooking the cable from both TV and receiver. Turn them both off and hook it back up, receiver first then TV. Now power on TV then receiver.. I do remember seeing a post before that said on some RCA and Toshiba models you have to turn on the TV first then the Voom box. Also look for the top orange "light bar" to come on after your TV is turned on.

[VOOM] Re: Voom and RCA

John,

I just ordered Voom myself and also just bought a 52" HDTV RCA
Widescreen. When I connect it to the DVI jack on the back, it
doesn't look as good as when I connect it to the component jacks,
(Red, Green & Blue RCA). I went back to best buy, and actually did a
comparison with HDTV's. The RCA looked terrible compared to say a
Toshiba. The guys all told me that in order to use Voom you have to
have the new DVI type system to look good with Voom. Its actually
called DVI-HDCP. This is the new standard now in 2004. He showed me
the difference between the two. Well lucky me, I have only owned my
TV for two weeks, so I ca take it back and upgrade it to get a better
TV with a DVI-HDCP jack. Hope this helps!

I think the sales person has confused HDMI with HDCP. There is no such thing as DVI-HDCP jack! There is indeed a new HDMI jack, but it is not supported by VOOM yet (though you can buy a DVI-to-HDMI cable). HDCP is a copy protection protocol implemented over DVI. It does not require any new type of connector, but it does require HDCP-compliant DVI implementation within the TV set. You can't tell if the TV set is HDCP-compliant by looking at the connector, but you can always check the specs. HDCP-compliance must be mentioned in the TV set's manual. If the TV set is not HDCP-compliant, the DVI interface will not work with VOOM.

RE: [VOOM] Re: Voom and RCA

Ya'all talk about this DVI thing and obviously some have issues with it. My
Hitachi is 2 years old and doesn't have a DVI connector so I use the
Red/Grn/Blue monster cable and my picture as is as sharp as anything I have
seen elsewhere and I could not be happier with it. I also use a optical
cable for the audio and love the surround sound on my 6.1 receiver :)

[VOOM] Re: Voom and RCA

VOOM has copyright protection software, which conflicts w/some dvi
cables.
Try the fix mentioned about (thanks I'll employ that little bit of
wisedom<Grin>) I knew about the 1080i setting, but not the rest.
You may or maynot have the option to use dvi, sorry, component may be
your only option to view VOOM w/out difficulties.

I think Voom is using DVI-HDCP (HD copy protection), and your TV
might not support it.

I have a 52" RCA RPTV that I bought last year, and it does support
HDCP just fine.

Also, might want to check your output resolution. Just open up that
door and push the little red button, and see if that helps...
