[VOOM] VOOM DOOM

I've been with VOOM for a month, I really like it.
What bothers me is all the financial news that VOOM wont survive
without Cablevision. And CVC investors wont this VOOM dream to end
etc. I for one feel VOOM has to loose the Cable Co. mentality of
controling our equipment. Let us sell it and activate the new owner.
Maybe self promote a little more, example when watching ESPNHD they
say call your cable co. D* or E* to get ESPNHD. Never mention VOOM
who's fault is that ? I inquired about VOOM last Nov. almost ordered
then. The CSR told he we'd have PPV movies etc. still nothing.
Not sure if it's the spam keeping Wilt away or what but I personally
dont have a warm and fuzzy for VOOM's survival.. I really hope I'm
wrong

Voom's moving ... forward , and that's the best news to hear, just check the Cinema10 changes, and the news from CEDIA... MPG4/WM9 on it's way, DVR and whole home solution coming soon.. I have more faith in Voom progressing technology wise than all of D* and E*'s promises wrapped up into one.

Read the info Ilya posted, his sources say Whole House Solution January or late this year, possible the DVR sooner, who knows. They are shooting for MPG4 THIS year as opposed to early next. The new satellite will not be available to us until at least Q1 2005.

[VOOM] Re: VOOM DOOM

I agree, I have both VOOM and iO from cablevision.
I'm more than happy with VOOM. But you have to look at it from all
angles.. Money may be a problem if VOOM cant get subs.. The
Cablevision group is buzzing about financial reports on VOOM.
VOOM says subs have slowed since price increases and no more $0
upfront offers... DUH that's an easy one to fix VOOM.
Another thing it listed was VOOM has subs not paying, and they may
hve to look @ disconnecting them.. what gives there ? just my 2c

I was at CEDIA with Ilya, and talked to various folks from VOOM, The whole house solution will not be out this year. However a single tuner DVR will be available before the end of the year.

They are shooting for MPEG4 this year, the first channels to go MPEG4 will be SD channels followed later by the HD channels.

VOOM wants the best picture quality possible for ALL channels HD and SD so when MPEG4 rolls around I think we will be seeing some very positive comments about VOOM SD quality. :D

[VOOM] Re: VOOM DOOM

I remember giving VOOM a concerned warning at the time that a price
increase was a bad idea. I think it turned a lot of potential
customers off.

If they cut you off, they lose a sub - and it doesn't look like they can afford that either. . . .

[VOOM] Re: VOOM DOOM

You service would be cut in a hurry. :)

I hate to say I told them so, but I just think you cannot have a new
fledling service, and raise rates so fast. It makes people think
they are constantly going to have their rates raised. Just a bad
mistake.

Say WHAT? A SINGLE tuner DVR? Can't watch one show while recording
another. Is that a satellite or OTA tuner?

Dan,
Will the MP4 work with the current receiver or will all receivers need to be replaced? hOpefully, it's just a software upgrade.

Re: [VOOM] Re: VOOM DOOM

I received the 60cm dish upgrade from VOOM today. The installer ( Outerlink services in Syracuse, NY) came out and did an excellent and speedy job swapping out dishes and repeaking the new dish! He also added a couple of anchors bolts since the dish was a bit shaky after the first install. I now get a signal level of 99 and I think that's as good as it gets. Of course that's on a clear day like today was. I'm getting rain this weekend so we'll see if it helps the horrendous rain fade problems I've had during a very wet summer.

VOOM really does try to satisfy our technical needs. If they would just let me get authorized on my second receiver or at least allow it to be used for OTA by ifting that obnoxious blue "not authorized" screen.
I'll stick with VOOM anyway because I really like the offering!

There is a card slot in all the current receivers that will take the upgrade
module for Mpeg 4.

Dan,
Will the MP4 work with the current receiver or will all receivers need to be
replaced? hOpefully, it's just a software upgrade.
