I just saw on electronicdecor.com that the DVR unit will be $750 retail.
Does anyone know any more about this... such as rental cost?

Robert

I was told by the Voom CSR that if you're leasing their box you will get an automatic upgrade if you would like. Not sure how true this is. Can we get Wilt to verify?

directivohd is $1000 retail so it's reasonable. however, i think we're all hoping for a rental option :)

Heck if they'd lower the price to under $500 I wouldn't hesitate to buy it!

I did not read this very carefully but I think Seanb61 is right. This is the $749 initial price for the non-dvr receiver.

The only information we have on the new box is what they told us way
back when, 3rd quarter 2004. Rainbow is being very closed lipped on
this, sorry, wish I could be more helpful.

I don't understand why a "owner" should get a free upgrade. Leasers are
paying a monthly fee an upgrades come with that. Owners......well you
bought it now you OWN IT............LOL

Because we paid more for it than you did in the short term in anticipation of getting a deal on the DVR. It was one of the supposedly promised rewards of buying. Owners by the way are also entitled to the same upgrades, repair service, etc; for 2 years. The problem is that the DVR isn't likely to be considered an upgrade to the current box. It's a entirely new system. SO I sincerely doubt either of us are getting it for free.

I'd also suggest that owners should be the first to get them, since we've made the obvious committment to Voom that you renters seem to lack ;)

If, like the current Moto box, it's not ready for prime time come
its release, I'll be dropping VOOM for DirecTv I'm afraid. :-(

As it is, I don't know if I can afford to keep Voom if the Closed
Captioning isn't fixed in the next month.

I rent VOOM. If they rent me a DVR, I think that's fine. If they
think I'll buy it for a company so uncertain--I won't. Not unless
it will do OTA reception and scanning WITHOUT Voom hooked up. Then
I would.

I never said don't let people rent it... I simply said that giving it for free to renters and not doing the same for buyers would be a mistake.

[VOOM] Re: VOOM DVR $750USD ??

I agree with both of you guys. I was a charter member since 11/07.
who changed to lease. The thing that bothered me as well was why buy
when you cant scan for OTA and use it without VOOM service... Without
those two options what do you really own for $749.00 at the time or
what the cost is now ?
