[VOOM] Voom - Poor business = No business; Good VS Bad

Good:

1. Most HD offered anywhere.
2. Subscription very reasonably priced.

Bad:

1. Several complaints about bad picture quality.
2. Several complaints about hardware upgrads gone wrong.
3. Less channels. Even though the channels that are missing may
not be the most watched, they still don't offer them to the people
that may be looking for them.
4. Cannot activate a used system (this is hurting them most). They
force you to either pay $9.50 a month for the receiver or $399 or
more brand new. I honestly wonder how many customers they turn down
on a daily basis? I'm sure this keeps DirecTV and Dish Network
happy.
5. Voom specific HD channels play the same thing all the time.
I've heard several issues of repeated play on these channels.
6. No guarantee on channel availability. The Starz! package may go
away at some point. And if it goes away they can't answer what they
would do for the customer.
7. Apartment installs denied. Yet again they throw away more
customers.
8. Customer service reps extremely unknowledged. When calling
originally I asked the direction I'd need to face to pick up the
signal. I was told "southeast". I asked if they could be more
specific and they said "No, that's all we've been told.".
9. They are control freaks. They seem to need control over every
aspect of their service in "our" residence. A tech has to do
everything. They make me feel like I'd never be able to fix
something myself.
10. Availablilty of techs to do the work when something does go
wrong. I've seen many occurances of people without service for
several days due to poor communication or any other issues between
Voom and their techs.

When all is said and done I think Voom is going to shoot themselves
right in the foot. I couldn't imagine another company that would
turn down not only business from prospective customers... but they
are turning down the revenue to get their company off the ground and
as a result will never become popular or widely known.

11. illegally collected sales taxes due to Vooms failure to register in each state?
12. Rain fade issues due to poor sat orientation with the horizon and low broadcast power.

#7 hmmm well I know several ppl that have VOOM in their appartments :)

to add to the list:

13. Billing system sucks (autopay + can't change billing date)
14. Have to have a phone "land" line (had to get VONAGE)

PS: they do have potential, but they need to get it together :D

Hmm... let's see. I had a billing problem, Voom worked it out. I had rain fade, Voom got me a bigger dish. I had poor OTA reception, the installer came back and put up a longer mast with guy wiring and a bigger antenna. My boxes don't lock up. I enjoy all my choices. Yeah, man, that Voom service sure sucks....

[VOOM] Re: Voom - Poor business = No business; Good VS Bad

Just to add a little:
Good:
Cinema 10 except Divine (don't want to start another flame)

Equator

Free locals

CSR told me last night I can sell the equipment and the new owners
can have it installed and activated for free.

Don't want to support Motorhomes (another market that Dish and
Direct have captured) althoug I do bring a VOOM receiver with us on
trips.

Bad:
I live in the desert and had Rain Fade last night which knocked me
out for 3 hours. This is our monsoon season and I think it is unfair
to expect an outage every time we have a monsoon storm. I have
Direct TV for the NFL ticket, RSN's and Outdoor Channel, it was on.
I have DishNetwork for HDnet and it was fine.

Rave is just a rip off of PBS Sound Stage.

Rush, repeats, no jet skiing races, not race boat races, not a whole
lot of skiing, wakeboarding etc..

Not enough variety on Animania for the kids, and not enough
programming for the children, i.e. all the Nick channels

No complete Discovery package

No complete StarZ package

No complete Cinemax package, i.e. no 5 Star Max and Outer Max

No RSN's

No OUTDOOR Channel

No HDnet

No Sci-FI

No USA

No Lifetime

No Lifetime Movies

No Fox Movies

No Inhd1 and Inhd2 like originally advertised.

World Cinema, have to watch the captions for the entire movie.

[VOOM] Re: Voom - Poor business = No business; Good VS Bad

Supervisor told me they were just experimenting with the 30" dish so
I couldn't get one. If I have rain fade again I am going to try and
get my money back for all my equipment. This is unacceptable.
