hello,

i guess by reading several sites and boards your the guy to talk
to. well first off i love the picture voom gives and all the
channels but, i have had voom for about 2 weeks now and its been a
nigghtmare. first the original installer canceled like 3 times and 2
of them were after the time they were suposed to be here, he was not
at all familiar with voom. he didnt calk any of the hole he drilled
in my roof, he would not mount the off ait antenna on my roof, said
i wouldnt get any channel any way, i live 20 mile from syracuse ny
where all my locals come from. so i called voom and they said they
would send out a different company to fix the porch roof and give me
an upgrade anttena and put it on the main roof, well the time they
were suposed to be here came and went, so again i called and they
said outterlink has reported they were at your house(outterlink was
the original instal who i didnt want back) but they were not here,
it was suposed to cave installs. so after 1 hour on hold going back
and forth we got it striagght that no one had come, so again they
gave me an appointment fopr cave and again a no show hmmmmmmm! well
a few days ago i called and said get caves install here or come get
my stuff i quit. so they set me up with cave for monday the 8th with
caves AGAIN! well this morning i had an email from voom saying
outerlink would be here on monday! so again i called and said its
caves install that is coming right, she said no, its outerlink. what
is going on? so in the end i said either caves on monday or come get
the equipment and ill have to go after the original installer for
the rain damage thats coming in throught the roof. she said ok ill
set it up but u need to call back ;later to verifiy that they can
come monday, i said sure whatever, 8000 phone calls and 1000 lies
whats goping on? please help me, i like the voom channel and picture

Unfortunately you are the victim of Voom's # 1 problem, their contract
installers. Seems you either get the ones who have no business doing
installs, or you get a great company with excellent service. There doesn't
seem to be anything in between. I feel bad for you.. good luck in getting a
good install.

Hi Wilt,
Yesterday my receiver started acting flaky. Whenever I tuned to an OTA channel the receiver would lock up and I'd have to remove power and wait and then repower up the receiver. Everything's OK on Sat channels but when I go to locals the receiver either freezes up or goes into a reset mode as if powering up. I powered down and pulled the OTA module because I did not know if it could be pulled with power on and i'm now avoiding the OTA channels but if I "surf" throught the locals the unit does not freeze or power down until, and as soon as, I connect the antenna.
I will call VOOM for service and then will send someone I imagine but I certainly can change the module if that's all that 's wrong. Could save VOOM some money but I am sure they will insist on sending someone.
Is this OTA problem rare or have you heard of it before and do you have any suggestions. I have stayed at 6.2 software by the way.

I'm not familiar with, nor have I heard of, this issue.
Yes, I expect they'll want to send a tech for now.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks,
Wilt

Thanks Wilt.
Any idea if there is any way or any plans to eventually retrofit Firewire IEEE 1394 on existing DSR-550's in the future?
