Get a PS3 + Blu-ray remote with it.
Good deal, and great firmware support.
The PS3 is usually the first one to get any updates for blu-ray...and its always on top of the list.

MY Quad system got ripped off... still have the tapes and records though
If i want to listen to 32 year old albums I still can. And for quite awhile I pretended that this made it OK. But one day I realized that it does not.

And on the other hand, the manufacturers will wait a long time to sell one.
Consumers can live without an HD DVD player. Can HD DVD player manufacturers live without sales?
Your all refering to sales, but manufacturers have not and will not lower MSRP until the 4th quarter. More so, a BD player with all the features of a (price range)HD DVD player will not see the light of day for 18-24 months. By then downloading will be getting ready for primetime so why bother.
Until this January, what were the MSRP of the Toshiba HD-DVD's?
I guess we will have to see what the price of the Toshiba B-35 will be.
Technically, the MSRP on SD DVDs haven't come down all that much either and are still hovering around $30, just no one in their right mind would pay that much unless money is no issue for them. As a matter of fact, if you check Amazon's web site today, the price of the SD version of Blades of Glory [WS] at $25.99 is more than the HD DVD version at $19.99 (for which the MSRP is $39.99!!). Just one example, the point being MSRPs are almost irrelevant with online shopping and rotating B&M leader sales on newer titles.
You missed the point. The topic of my post and the last few post was talking about manufacturers of hardware.
Completely different metrics when comparing software.
In the post of yours I replied to, you had quoted another poster's mention of current sales of BD software, which was part of a discussion about how with the format war over there wouldn't be anything to keep HDM prices down. Therein lies my confusion.
HDM prices are set by studios. If one studio's prices tend higher than others, they will likely see a loss of business. Consider DVDs- prices have dropped so far studios are worried about losing an income stream. There hasn't been a worthy competitor to the DVD format for most of it's existence. Similar for Blu-ray in the future, despite some folks' blind adherence to the MS line about HD downloads.
18 months? More like 3-6 months... Anyone who thinks the Blu standalones are even close in capabilities to the comparable HD DVD standalones in equivalent functionality has Blu blinders on.
Hopefully, the Panasonic BD50 will finally introduce a Blu-Ray standalone worth buying. I hope they bring back DVD-A playback as well.
Just came from Wal-Mart, No HD movies at all...unless you can count the Spiderman BD in the PS3 Box. I asked the department manager and was told they were told to pull all HD movies after Fridays announcement and they were sent back for credit...
