Warner Bro's TotalHD Delayed Indefinitely
Combo HD-DVD / Blu-ray discs fail to launch.
by Gerry Block

September 17, 2007 - Very early this year in the pre-CES buzz, Warner Brothers made some headlines by announcing plans to manufacture and distribute movies on a combo format for the next-gen players. Dubbed TotalHD, the discs were to offer HD-DVD content on one side and Blu-ray on the other, thereby alleviating buyers' concerns about choosing the wrong side in the format war.

Warner Brothers did originally offer dates for the first TotalHD releases, but after these came and went the future of the format started looking grim. The word is now out that it may never see the light of day at all. Speaking with TWICE last week, Warner Home Video's president Ron Sanders expressed concern that if Warner is to be the only one publishing on TotalHD (the company's efforts at getting other studios on board have apparently not born fruit), it probably isn't going to happen at all. Unless some progress is made, "it's kind of on hold right now."

BluRay's dirty little secret.

Which way does your WAF lean in the format wars?
