We are leaving on a 25 day trip with our travel trailer and plan on taking our Directv with us.

We will be mostly traveling, so I might not set up the Directv dish every night. Can we watch the programs recorded on the DVR without hooking up the satellite dish?

Thanks!
Pat

I’m pretty sure I saw on another thread that this will work. Could be that it only works on HD DVR though. If stuck on acquiring sat. Signal you can push exit.

Which DVR? With the newer software versions on the HR20, they now work without sat hookup. Its a feature that was designed to work when the sat goes down in weather or power loss but does work in offline mode.

Works on old DVRs

I have an old Phillips SD DVR and wanted to use it in the bedroom where there wasn't a Directv connection. First the DVR tried to connect to a satellite, which of course it couldn't. On each step I told the DVR to skip what ever it was trying to do and move on. Eventually it got stuck on trying to find the satellite, but I also got the message that I could watch what was recorded on the hard drive while the DVR continued to search.

We have a Directv Plus receiver, model R15 manufactured Feb 07. Your replies have helped a lot, and will try the suggestions when the time comes. Just keep skipping to the next step.

Thanks again!

Just disconnect 2 sat inputs from your R15 and try to whatch prerecorded show...........as simple as that...

This doesn't really answer your question since it's a different receiver, but, we have an SD DirecTivo that we recently replaced with an HR20. I asked the same question of DirecTV and they said yes we'd be able to watch our recorded programs on the DirecTivo after it had been disconnected from the satellite dish. And they were right, it works. You have to get by one or two complaint messages that it can't find the satellites, but after that you can go to the Now Playing list and play back the recorded programs.
