I need a good outdoor antenna where I live. The Channel Master CM4228 w/preamp & rotor is a very good solution. This is a UHF (only) antenna; however, all of our digitals are UHF, so it's just the ticket! Shop around - good prices can be found.

I have a 20+ yr old antenna. It doesn't say HDTV on it, but I fooled them and watch HD anyway.

Depending on your area, a UHF, VHF or combo is needed. Go to antenneweb.org

It all depends on your local conditions. If all of your DTV stations are YELLOW on the antennaweb.org page, almost anything from a coat hanger to CM 4228 will work.
