Which way does your WAF lean in the format wars?

I have learn something just recently. My wife seems to approve of the BD titles more then the HD-DVD titles. She leans towards Disney titles (she actually will watch the whole movie) and she likes alot of Sony's, Fox's and Warner's releases this year. Here is what she liked and did not like and why:

Casino Royal-- she is a Bond fan. And she really liked the new Bond movie, the story and the actor.

Bourne Supremacy -- She likes these movies but she felt that some of the scenes video was too fast -- made her dizzy. And she did not like the constant movement of the camera angles in circles. And the sound track was way too loud. She won't watch this one again.

Transformers -- will not even consider watching this one -- her brothers drove her crazy when they were kids over these guys.

Blades of Glory -- not a Will Ferrell fan. She does not like stupid humor (although she likes Ben Stiller -- go figure)

Evan Almighty -- she thinks this movie was stupid -- another one she would not go to.

She is not to hip on sports movies and testosterone movies (like Carlito's way) unless they are historically based and the theme sticks with the more personal side and not the sport. She also does not like love stories but she does like movies about women in history or movies about strong women (natch) so she tends to like Jodi Foster movies and is a big fan of Ms Streep.

POTC: The last movie she could not make too much sense of but she likes Depp and she will watch him no matter how bad a movie it is.

Spiderman3 -- she is a fan -- I don't know why but she likes these movies.

Anything Pixar -- she likes to watch animation with the grandson -- need I say more. He likes CARS (I have the SD version) and she thouht it was cute. She will not go to the movies for these as she says she will watch when I buy it.

Disney -- most anything animated or about animals and true stores that is not sports based. And Disney/Pixar first time animation like CARS, Rautouille, The Robinsons she will watch at least once. She does not like new animated movies based on earlier animation. On animation -- she watched Happy Feet with the grandson and she really liked the story and she thought the animation was great. This one from Warner.

Action -- she likes certain stars -- Will Smith, Denzil Washington, Tom Cruise (until his lastes couch outburst) and she will watch their movies. She does like action movies if they have a half-way decent story line.

Bottom line, based on the movies she likes -- the bulk is coming out on BD so she doesn't mind my buying them. She just does not want me replace my entire DVD collection. I will replace about 20% but based on current movies out and those coming out -- ones she wants to see -- most are Sony, Fox and Warner releases. As long as Warner remains nuetral I am safe staying with BD.

How does your WAF stack up?

For my wife, it doesn't matter (ie: she has no preference HD or BR). However, she only knows how to use the HD DVD player so I guess HD for her.

HD DVD is so much easier. Just press "Watch Movie" on the remote, and go up to the player, press eject. Put disc in, movie plays.

BR is much more complicated. You have to press "More Activities" then "Watch Blu-Ray". Then you drop the Harmony remote, use the PS3 remote. Press "<circle>" and select "Yes" and press "X" (To get out of folding, this is the confusing part). Then insert disc, and play movie.

Too bad my Harmony remote doesn't do PS3 commands. Otherwise I could make the "Watch Blu-Ray" activity automatically exit out of folding and all you would need to do is insert a disc. But that's not the case.

HUH? I turn it on, stick in the disk and it plays in 10 seconds. No commands to the Blu-ray controller or remote at all. Oh, yes, I press a button on the receiver to switch audio source. But that will go away with the new receiver.

Well, at minimum you need to turn the TV on, reciever on and set the appropriate inputs. that's what "Watch Blu-Ray" does on the Harmony.

Then if you run folding (which I do, my PS3 is never turned off) then you have to use those extra steps.

My wife likes the small $69 SD player in the kitchen but to tell the truth, only watches local TV on the under the counter HD monitor. :) When I'm away, she never ventures into the HT for fear of messing something up. My daughter knows more about it than the "WAF" But the choice is " Whatever you say, I trust will be OK" :) I will be doing both formats!

Mine couldn't give a crap. I don't think she even realizes that we have a new HD-DVD player in the setup. She knows we've been watching HDDVD discs. But, I think she thinks it's the discs that are different. I'm sure she doesn't know anything about the two formats, or that some movies are only available in one or the other.

My wife was the one who told me to go ahead and get the hd-dvd player. We bought it during the recent amazon sale, and our discs didnt get shipped untill after the player. I had the player set up, and when the discs came (I was at work) she called me up and said the diffrence in the picture was phenominal (she swears she cant tell the diff between sd and hd on the satellite). Right now, were HD-dvd only, but with Disney, when bd or combo players hit the same price as our hd-a2, we'll go neutral.
