I currently have Insight Cable. The DVR's they use have to be put in standby mode in order to turn on closed captioning. How stupid is that? This means I can't do it while a recording is in progress or I will lose some of the recording.

How does it work with DirecTV DVR's. Can you turn it off and on like you can on TV's. This has become a real problem for me since I'm almost totally deaf. I am going to have to go to satellite if it works any better for CC.

You can toggle it on/off using the yellow button on the remote, press it and you cursor down one line and press select to turn it on, do the same again to turn it off.

There are also a lot of options on the setup menu for font, size, background, color, etc. Captions are available on every recording that was broadcast with them, regardless of whether CC was turned on at the time. (Your cable DVR might do that too, I don't know.)

Should I pull new cables myself before DIRECTV installation?
