Am the last person to notice that WLIW 721 is broadcasting selected programs in HD: Word World, NOVA, Nature, Austin City Limits and Jakers? I don't think I have seen anything on this in any of the posts.

I have noticed the guide flags them as HD but I do not think there are?
I will have to check it out.

I just put 721 on the box, it is a SD channel. 480i resolution, so how the heck is HD being broadcast over it if it is 480i? Just curious.

I think that 721 is a PBS channel because I've seen some of the "HD" that has been on 721 on channel 713. I think that 721 is just a SD channel that is in the wrong spot.

I am not techie enough to challenge Delorean or Cforest on technical grounds. I would ask that they both tune in to 721 at a time they have an HD broadcast. Try Word World tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. If your not home, record it. If you still don't agree, so it goes.

As I understand the history, WLIW was broadcasting in HD before it was acquired by Thirteen and then it stopped. That may be why it is where it is on Cable at 721.

Any way, not that important since there is not much HD on it anyhow.

Tomorrow at 8AM I will put the channel on, see if the box changes resolutions to 1080i, since I assume when HD is broadcast it is 1080i like channel 713. Will post my findings.

I've put it on when a HD show or event was supposed to be shown. Nada. It is 24/7 480i.

I think I read a while back that it was at sometime in the past a HD channel that broadcast in 1080i, and found that it was too expensive or such to broadcast in HD, so it reverted back to only SD. Cablevision, however, has still listed it in the HD channels for whatever reason. (I have to go back and count up the channels and see if Cablevision is using this as a HD channel to use in their "Over 40" HD channels.

WLIW In HD

Apparently, I was wrong. I checked this a.m. myself and no HD. My eyes must be failing me because when I watched a recent Nova (or maybe it was Nature) program on WLIW - it was about wolves in Yellowstone - it was not only labeled HD but appeared so to me. That said, I did not check whether it was 480i.

Sorry for the false alarm.

Theres really nothing to challenge me on I was just saying my observation.

Quick question, somewhat related..

13HD, is that the Washington, DC, PBS station WETA we're getting on channel 13?

None of the programming mirrors each other. I can't say I watch 13HD that much, but one time I did and it had the quick bug of WETA-DT on it.

Is it WETA all the time, or just a conglomerate of hi def PBS broadcasts from all over?

CV channel 713 is WNET-DT (thirteen) from NY. PBS shows are produced by many different PBS affiliates and sometimes their call letters are announced as producer.
