NOVEMBER 21, 2005 -

WPIX, Tribune Broadcasting's WB station in New York, will continue to carry New York Mets games for another three years through a deal with SportsNet New York, the market's new regional sports network founded by Sterling Entertainment Enterprises, Time Warner and Comcast, the station announced Monday.

The agreement, which begins in spring 2006, gives WPIX the right to broadcast up to 25 New York Mets games and provides for a consistent weekend baseball schedule. Financial terms were not disclosed.

All the games broadcast on the station will be produced by SportsNet New York under the direction of Curt Gowdy, Jr., vp and executive producer of SNY. Gary Cohen, SNY's new voice of the Mets, will serve as the play-by-play announcer.

"The WB11 has partnered with the Mets since 1999, and we're excited to build on that relationship as well as provide a consistent over-the-air home for Mets fans to watch their favorite team," said Jon Litner, president of SNY.

Both SNY and WPIX plan to cross-promote Mets baseball through a variety of on-air, print and Web site promotions.

Big question will be: Will they still do their games in HD? They were using the MSG's crew and cameras to do the HD baseball games.

Nice! Since it will probably be a longshot that E* would get their new station, at least we still get the weekend games on WPIX! As a Mets fan in the south, its nice to get to see the home broadcasters calling some of their games...and not always listening to the Braves/Cubs broadcasters all the time to see Mets games.
