Zymurgy (homebrew)

How much does the equipment run for a typical homebrew setup?

Something small works for me. :)

I got into it about 15 years ago... a couple of friends did it... I bought a 7 gallon plastic can with sealable lid and a hole for an airlock(it was a kit) I do not remember cost... I subed to Zymurgy magazine for a while and learned a lot...the first few batchs I made were with malt extract... comes in can's(like syrup) and corn sugar... you heat until it boils more or less(more complicated than that) then add yeast after it cools... don't mess with until the specific gravity reaches a certain point....

Two great forums for brewing:

Do you have any great recipes (all grain) you're willing to share? I've been throwing recipes together, some not conforming to any rigid style, but they make pretty good beer. I like German style Hefeweizens, because they are easy to make and so pronounced in their flavor profile, plus they are ready in a relatively short time-frame.

Do you have to use a 3 tier brewing system for Wine also? Or it this just for beer.

You don't need a three tier system for wine. Wine doesn't brew, it just ferments.... The three tier system is used to convert the starch in barley to sugar.
